Results for Qualifying 1

CORDOVA, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the 22nd annual IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Roger Dean 		Runs 5.713/190.78, Now #1
Right Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr 	Runs 6.140/153.42, Now #2
Dean dropped a bunch of cylinders right off the starting line spitting out a lot of raw fuel. Lagana back in the Ralph White machine and there was whisp of smoke off the Goodyears around half track.
Left Lane: Jim Bailey 		Runs 4.804/305.49, Now #1
Right Lane: Clay Millican 	Runs 5.436/181.47, Now #2
Bailey has Rick Cassil turning the wrenches now and it looks like the combination is working. This was a great looking pass for Bailey. Millican started to loose traction before half track, then smoking the Goodyears. When he lost traction and the rpms went way up and the blower belt came off.
Left Lane: Jim Head 		Runs 5.197/214.89, Now #2
Right Lane: Paul Romine 	Runs 6.631/139.17, Now #6
Romine lost traction around 200 feet, he pedaled it, lost traction again, so he was off and on the throttle again only to go up in smoke. He attempted it one more time before giving up. Head was out of the throttle way early.
Left Lane: Louie Allison 	Runs 5.707/169.42, Now #4
Right Lane: Bruce Litton 	Runs 8.311/99.01, Now #8
Allison dropped a bunch of cylinders right off the starting line and stayed with it until about half track. Litton was up in smoke by 200 feet and that was the end of this pass. He will have one more shot tonight.

CORDOVA, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the 22nd annual IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

      Left Lane: Bruce Litton     Runs 4.798/299.53, Now #1
                                  Best prior run: 8.311/99.01, Was #8
     Right Lane: Jim Head         Runs 4.970/232.11, Now #3
                                  Best prior run: 5.197/214.89, Was #2
Under the stars these two light up the skies with header flames way over the rear wing. Head was loose all the way down the 1320 and finally clicked it off. Litton with a great pass here for the number one spot.
      Left Lane: Paul Romine      Runs 4.835/302.41, Now #3
                                  Best prior run: 6.631/139.17, Was #8
     Right Lane: Jim Bailey       Runs 13.232/39.35, Now #2
                                  Best prior run: 4.804/305.49, Was #2
Bailey launched hard and then the header flames went out around the 330-foot mark. Romine was on a great pass, but had a puff of smoke out of it on the top end.
      Left Lane: Clay Millican    Runs 4.662/309.91, Now #1
                                  Best prior run: 5.436/181.47, Was #5
     Right Lane: Roger Dean       Runs 5.334/248.84, Now #6
                                  Best prior run: 5.713/190.78, Was #7
Millican kept the candles lit and the Goodyears stuck all the way down the fame Cordova Drag Strip for the track record. Dean with a good clean pass and made a move in the right direction.
      Left Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr  Runs 5.063/236.51, Now #6
                                  Best prior run: 6.140/153.42, Was #8
Lagana was on a pass until around 800 feet and that was when the header flames went out and he lost the blower belt. That wraps up Top Fuel qualifying.

Head was out of the gate first and had Romine covered until about half track. Then they both start to lose traction and we had a pedal contest to the finish line as they both were smoking the hides rest of the way down the quarter mile.  Margin of victory = .008 seconds.

Lagana did his job on the tree, but Bailey had made up the difference by the 330-foot mark and just blasted on into the next round.

 (L) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster)         0.531      5.528 250.23
Litton with the big starting line advantage and then just started blistering the big Goodyears around half track. Dean was able to keep the candles lit and the Goodyears stuck to sneak by Litton around 1200 feet for the big upset. This is Roger Dean's first round win in IHRA competition.

Allison with the starting line advantage, but Millican blasted by him around 330-foot mark and then hazed the tires around half track. Millican pedaled it and got it to hook up and hold on for the win light. Allison started to lose traction and clicked it off. Millican will have lane choice over Romine and Bailey will get his pick over Dean in the semi-finals.

Dean did his job on the tree, but it is not enough as Bailey chased him down by the 330-foot mark, but then slowed on the top end.

 (L) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Auto Parts Dragster)  0.479     10.506  85.98
Romine was out of the gate first, but then just blistered the big Goodyears around 200 feet out and he pedaled it, but it was over. Millican with a great looking run clean and the big top end speed to take lane choice in the final over Bailey.

Millican left first and never looked back to take his first win of the year. They both had the candles lit in the dark sky with header flames waving high over the rear wing and the Goodyears glued to the track. Millican set the National mph record here as this backed up his earlier run of 318.17 mph.
