Results for Qualifying 1

BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Tenth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts President's Cup Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.612/210.77, Now #1
Right Lane: Jason Collins Runs 6.696/208.97, Now #2
2:30 PM We're a bit behind schedule with several oildowns during the Sportsman qualifying sessions. Conditions should be close to perfect for these cars, especially during the evening sessions today and tomorrow, so the World record could fall
Left Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 6.691/208.59, Now #2
Right Lane: Elijah Morton No Time, Now #4
Morton's car didn't fire, so Holbrook ran on a single.
Left Lane: Richard Penland Runs 6.685/208.84, Now #2
Right Lane: Tony Fox Runs 6.697/208.94, Now #5
Two more good runs, but with these conditions they may not even be enough to make the field after four rounds of qualifying are over.
Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.650/211.43, Now #3
Right Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.614/210.31, Now #2
Two more great runs, the two Moser Engineering cars now in the first two spots in the order.
Left Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 6.636/210.31, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Williford Runs 6.664/206.35, Now #5
Two more runs, all the cars making runs so far clocking times somewhere in the sixties.
Left Lane: Terry Leggett Runs 7.920/126.79, Now #11
Right Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 6.617/209.72, Now #3
Leggett's car was all over the lane for the first 300 feet. Nice pass by Nabors, the red Cavalier right down the groove.
Left Lane: John Bartunek Runs 6.630/209.17, Now #4
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.883/158.07, Now #12
Wilson's car got off the starting line okay, with a 1.01 60-foot time, but then the car fell off the pace, Bartunek running him down and going by on the top end as Wilson slowed.
Left Lane: Joel Bayless Runs 10.346/92.20, Now #15
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 6.599/210.41, Now #1
Kirk takes then top spot, but is nine thousandths short of the track record.
Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.621/210.73, Now #5
Nice run for Montecalvo in a qualifying session marked by good runs.
Right Lane: Carl Baker Runs 6.862/200.98, Now #14
Baker is in Wally Stroupe's Grand Am and this was his first pass in the car.

BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Tenth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts President's Cup Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

9:23 PM The temperatures are cool and dew is forming on the track so not many pro stockers are willing to run tonight, even though they've run the jet dryer up and down the track a few times. The crew pushed started the car. When Collins backed up into the water box, the engine stalled so they gave up on this run.
Left Lane: Tony Fox Runs 14.548/55.61, Now #13
Best prior run: 0.000/208.94, Was #97
9:26 PM The wheelie bar on Fox's car hit the track so hard it threw sparks. Fox shut it down quickly. The third car that was waiting in line decided not to run, so that's the end of Pro Stock qualifying round two.

Collins came into this round sitting on the bubble. Bayless was the only car not in the field that has not yet run. As Bayless came off the line, he shook the tires and shut down. For Collins, the good news is that he is still in the field. The bad news is that he has to face number one qualifies Gene Wilson in round one of eliminations.
