Ethanol Performs:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Elijah Morton (New Century Homes Probe) 0.481 6.722 206.89
(L) John Montecalvo (Citgo Cavalier) 0.518 6.710 206.57
11:22 AM Under cloudy skies with a brisk left-to-right breeze blowing across
the track, the professional competitors begin their eliminations. As usual, we
open with the two closest-qualified cars in Pro Stock and Morton uses a holeshot to
gain the win. Margin of victory = 0.025 seconds (approximately 8 feet).
(W) Dwayne Rice (Firebird) 0.499 6.756 206.07
(L) Terry Leggett (Mustang) 0.506 6.771 204.45
Not much difference at the start, but Rice had the top end power to open a
lead and get the win light. Margin of victory = 0.022 seconds (approximately 7
feet).
(W) Ron Miller (Moser Engineering Monte Carlo) 0.478 6.722 205.44
(L) John Konigshofer (Probe) 0.437 6.783 208.01
Konigshofer rolled in first and then went in deep, but his starting line
advantage wasn't quite enough to turn the trick. Margin of victory = 0.020 seconds
(approximately 6 feet).
(W) Brian Gahm (Gahm's Parts Mustang) 0.444 6.710 206.64
(L) Doug Kirk (Cavalier) 0.442 6.754 205.29
These two left right together and that was bad news for Kirk, Gahm "on his
game" once again and an easy winner. Margin of victory = 0.042 seconds
(approximately 13 feet).
(W) Tom Lee (Mustang Parts Mustang) 0.457 6.725 206.70
(L) John Bartunek (Pearl River Grand Am) 0.481 6.736 204.70

Lee went to the finals in the Sunoco Shootout. The race was as good as expected,
Lee's early lead making the difference. Margin of victory = 0.035 seconds
(approximately 11 feet). Lee loses lane choice to Gahm in round two.

(L) Mark Hay (Hay Enterprises Grand Am) 0.533 6.763 205.57
Baker's hot streak continues, a great light and an easy win. He also gets to
pick the lanes against Miller next round.
(W) Tim Nabors (Nabors Racing Cavalier) 0.501 6.719 205.94
(L) Tony Fox (Mustang) 0.475 6.754 205.51

feet. Margin of victory = 0.009 seconds (approximately 3 feet). Nabors has lane
choice against Rice in round two.
(W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.421 6.654 208.75
(L) Chris Holbrook (Livernoise M'Sports Mustang) 0.450 9.399 112.99
Wilson does it all here, a super light and low ET of the round for an easy
win against Holbrook, who went into tire shake about 100 feet out, his car skating
all over the track, forcing him to shut it down.

(approximately 14 feet).

(W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.433 6.685 208.20
(L) Carl Baker (Summit Racing Cougar) 0.448 6.681 208.04
6:08 PM Baker has been tough on the tree all day, but Wilson's performance
edge has been worth a few hundredths in each round today and he's also been right
on time. Wilson wins on a holeshot, Baker right there all the way down the track
and Wilson winning by less than his starting line advantage. Good drag race!
