Results for Elimination Round 1
STANTON, Mich. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Lizzard
Racing Engines TS Shootout at the 20th annual CARQUEST Northern Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Carl Rossler ('55 Bel Air) 0.736 6.806 196.85
(L) Jim Detrick ('99 Probe) 0.472 8.213 123.85
6:50 PM Right on time, the "Night of Fire" begins with the Lizzard Racing
Engines Top Sportsman Quick 8. Rossler's crew had a problem getting the driver's
door closed after fanning the smoke out of the car from the burnout and that may
have distracted him because he was extremely late. But luck was with Rossler,
Detrick launching into violent shake, the car bouncing and all over the lane. By
the time he recovered, he was trailing Rossler, who posted his best ET of the
weekend for the win.
(W) Harry Rockwell ('92 Probe) 0.569 7.505 134.77
(L) Al Matarazzo ('88 Thunderbird) 0.480 11.470 74.42
Matarazzo launched and his car went through some violent gyrations, almost
hitting the guard rail before he got it tamed down. Rockwell was on a good pass
to half track and then his engine started eating itself. He got the win light, but
may not be able to return.
(W) Kenny Rucker ('63 Corvette) 0.519 6.679 209.62
(L) Doug Mills ('93 Thunderbird) 0.495 6.873 204.01
Good drag race, Mills away first and Rucker going by at half track for the
win. He will have lane choice against Rossler in the semifinals.
(W) Scot Johnson ('92 Firebird) 0.529 6.786 206.61
(L) Tim Decoff ('67 Nova) 0.498 7.029 194.91
Decoff got a small holeshot, not nearly enough to hold off Johnson. Johnson
has lane choice against Rockwell in the semis.
Saturday
Results for Elimination Round 2
STANTON, Mich. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Lizzard
Racing Engines TS Shootout at the 20th annual CARQUEST Northern Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Harry Rockwell ('92 Probe) 0.562 6.977 170.08
(L) Scot Johnson ('92 Firebird) 0.000(R) (Broke)
7:57 PM Johnson got the "yips" and left before the tree started down.
Rockwell got the freebie, but wounded the engine in the lights, leaving a trail of
oil on the top end and shutdown area.
(W) Kenny Rucker ('63 Corvette) 1.363 15.089 59.77
(L) Carl Rossler ('55 Bel Air) (Broke)
Rossler was unable to return after losing an engine in the first round and
Rucker just drove it through to advance to the finals, where he may be able to do
the same thing for the Quick 8 win if Rockwell's engine is too badly damaged to
continue.
