STANTON, Mich. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Show Cars at
the 20th annual CARQUEST Northern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed
time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Ken Nelson Runs 12.853/96.51, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Witzel Runs 13.213/126.89, Now #2
2:35 PM The exhibition runs open with Ken Nelson in the "Cool Bus" and Bob
Witzel in a twin-Cadillac, front-engined dragster. The dragster smoked the tires
the full quarter mile and the wheelstanding bus got the win light.
Left Lane: Jessica Willard Runs 5.336/296.24, Now #1
Right Lane: Danny Sullivan Runs 5.592/281.89, Now #2
Willard got the jump on Sullivan and then pulled away to get the win light in
the race between two jet dragsters.

Right Lane: Bob Witzel Runs 13.907/86.51, Now #4
Best prior run: 13.213/126.89, Was #4
9:05 PM This time it was the twin-Cadillac that got the win light, by 0.0120
seconds, the race pretty well hidden by the dragster's smoke trail.
Left Lane: Jessica Willard Runs 5.276/297.81, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.336/296.24, Was #1
Right Lane: Danny Sullivan Runs 5.596/275.84, Now #2
Best prior run: 5.592/281.89, Was #2
Willard's "Queen of Diamonds" versus Sullivan's "Chicago Rush", a pair of jet
dragsters closed the show, the tower quaking and rocking with the burner pops as
the crowd lit the way with lighters. Once again the race went to Willard, but
nobody really cared because they were busy cheering and enjoying the fireworks -
and the grass fire in front of the grandstands!

able to find the traction in the left lane.
