The track held a Stock/Super Stock Combo race on Saturday evening. 26
racers participated. The winner was Gilbert Johnson, Lecempte, La., car
number 4560, with a dial of 6.88, reaction time; .550, an ET of 7.031 and
a speed of 90.56. The runner up was Don Grant, Ft Worth, Tx., car number
44 with a dial of 7.11, reaction time; .566, an ET of 7.291 and a speed of
92.74.
The heads up Top Dragster Quick 8 shootout was Jack Heslink, Sachse, Tx.,
car number 424 with a reaction time of .4870 and an ET of 4.2146 with a
speed of 169.61. The runner up was David Howell of Baytown, Texas with a
red light reaction time of .358 and an et of 4.619 with a speed of 127.11.
In the heads up Top Sportsman race, Jimmy Hector (car number 445), Big
Spring Texas, in a 2000 Corvette was the winner with a reaction time of
.496 and an et of 4.609 and a speed of 153.00. The runner up was Alfred
Whiteside (car number4963) in a 1992 Camaro with a reaction time of .475
and an ET of 4.6948 with a speed of 151.00.
It was hot and humid, very hot and humid! The daytime temperature was
above 100 degrees with a heat index of 120 degrees. The on track
temperature was above that considerably. To offset the heat, track
operator Glen Brabham purchased 1500 bottles of water and distributed cold
bottles of water at the ET shack when drivers returned from a run. In
addition, Glen placed iced water in the staging lanes to insure drivers
and crew members had an ample supply of water to drink. IHRA (and
the racers!) would like to thank Lone Star for stepping up and taking care
of everyone!
