Del Nagro went right down the groove, but may have shut it down on the top end, his speed way off the pace.

Results for Qualifying 3

EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jason Collins Runs 6.738/209.23, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.732/209.56, Was #9
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 6.723/207.94, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.655/208.26, Was #2
1:22 PM A couple of major oildowns during the Sportsman final qualifying sessions delayed us a little bit, we're about 20 minutes behind schedule. Kirk made an awesome pass last night, allowing the Chevy fans to hold their heads high today. Here his car was a tad loose, the hazy sunshine loosening the traction a bit.
Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 8.061/124.11, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.677/209.69, Was #4
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.617/211.30, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.602/211.36, Was #1
Wilson's aborted run on his first qualifying attempt wasn't due to shake, as we thought, but a faulty fuel pump switch. When he hit the throttle, he ran out of fuel. Here he shows that his Cougar is ready to dominate once again. Rice's car was trying to either hit the wall or cross the centerline, so he shut it off.
Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.687/208.52, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.663/209.33, Was #3
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.707/207.88, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.684/207.27, Was #6
Two more good runs, just a bit off their evening pace from yesterday.
Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.724/208.49, Now #9
Best prior run: 12.232/66.90, Was #15
Right Lane: John Bartunek Runs 6.735/205.47, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.806/201.64, Was #11
Lee's first two attempts were pretty awful, but this one was solid, the front end in the air for the first 200 feet. Nice run for Bartunek also, clean and straight.
Left Lane: Anthony Paone Runs 6.772/205.85, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.736/206.54, Was #12
Right Lane: John Konigshofer Runs 6.720/203.80, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.813/208.52, Was #13
Konigshofer got his problems sorted out and moved around Paone (and a few others) on the ladder.
Left Lane: Carl Baker Runs 6.712/209.49, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.693/208.20, Was #8
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 6.735/207.18, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.692/208.94, Was #7
Baker made a nice-looking run, his ET a bit off his best, but starting to show the big speed he ran at Norwalk.
Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.738/207.37, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.683/208.97, Was #5
Right Lane: Mike Del Nagro Runs 7.079/197.71, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.846/188.73, Was #14
Final pair, Miller losing a few "hun" and Del Nagro well off his earlier pace.

Elimination Round 1

EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Sunoco
Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Ron Miller (Moser Engineering Monte Carlo) 0.473 6.695 208.59
 (L) Elijah Morton (New Century Homes Probe) 0.501 6.704 207.66
11:49 AM Fireworks. Burnouts. It's time to go racing! We open with the two closest-qualified cars in Pro Stock, just 0.001 seconds apart. Morton had two busted runs out of three tries, Miller made four full passes. Miller left first and then the two were welded together, Miller extending his lead slightly on the top end. Margin of victory = 0.037 seconds (approximately 11 feet).
 (W) Carl Baker (Summit Racing Cougar) 0.481 6.634 210.24
 (L) Dwayne Rice (Rice Racing Firebird) 0.542 6.751 208.42
Upset! Baker left first and then extended his lead all the way down the strip to win by several car lengths.
 (W) Brian Gahm (Gahm's Parts Mustang) 0.520 6.710 208.17
 (L) John Konigshofer (Probe) 0.471 6.764 209.56
Margin of victory = 0.005 seconds (approximately 18 inches) after Konigshofer's holeshot. Gahm made up the difference by the 60-foot timer and then paced him the rest of the way, Konigshofer's car very slow out of the blocks with a 1.116 60-foot time.
 (W) Steve Spiess (Moser Engineering Grand Am) 0.475 6.704 208.01
 (L) Anthony Paone (Paone Bros. Camaro) 0.406 6.823 205.72
Great light for Paone, but he couldn't run the number and Spiess went by almost immediately, Paone also spinning the tires hard on the launch with a 1.124 60-foot time.
 (W) Doug Kirk (Kirk Trucking Cavalier) 0.464 6.712 207.11
 (L) Jason Collins (Probe) 0.449 6.763 208.42
Kirk overcame early shake, the car very loose early in the run, to outrun Collins. Margin of victory = 0.036 seconds (approximately 11 feet). Kirk loses lane choice to Spiess in round two.
 (W) Tom Lee (Mustang Parts Mustang) 0.489 6.682 209.92
 (L) John Bartunek (Pearl River Grand Am) 0.426 6.763 205.66
Bartunek had a great light and a quick launch, forcing Lee to chase him all the way, the pass coming in the last hundred feet. Lee advances with lane choice over Gahm in round two.
 (W) John Montecalvo (Citgo Cavalier) 0.561 6.724 198.41
 (L) Mike Del Nagro (Camaro) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Del Nagro broke in the water and Montecalvo gets a freebie. He faces Baker in round two, Baker with lane choice.
 (W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.455 6.590 211.73
     was unopposed
Wilson uses the bye run to test his race-day setup and it looks pretty potent, running low ET and top speed of the round by a bunch! He has lane choice against Miller next round.

 (W) Tom Lee (Mustang Parts Mustang) 0.494 6.660 210.14
 (L) Brian Gahm (Gahm's Parts Mustang) 0.479 6.700 207.18
A pair of Mustangs square off and nobody wanted to stage first. Burndown! Starter "Spook" Peake finally just sat down and waited for them to stage. Gahm broke the deadlock and got the better light, but Lee had the muscle to run him down on the top end. Margin of victory = 0.025 seconds (approximately 8 feet).
 (W) John Montecalvo (Citgo Cavalier) 0.473 6.695 208.65
 (L) Carl Baker (Summit Racing Cougar) 0.483 6.721 209.82
Cavalier vs Cougar and the decision goes to the Cavalier, at both ends of the track. Margin of victory = 0.036 seconds (approximately 11 feet). Montecalvo faces Lee next round, Lee with lane choice.
 (W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.439 6.607 211.46
 (L) Ron Miller (Moser Engineering Monte Carlo) 0.414 6.706 209.10

 (W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.474 6.597 211.53

Finals

Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith Cougar) 0.467 6.588 211.79
 (L) John Montecalvo (Citgo Cavalier) 0.437 6.650 210.05
5:07 PM Montecalvo did a great job, but the Wilson juggernaut is very difficult to beat and Wilson runs his win list to six out of the eight events contested so far this year. His two losses came as the result of mechanical malfunctions, a clutch explosion and a line-lock failure. Margin of victory = 0.032 seconds (approximately 10 feet).
