EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Mopar Pro Modified at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals Ethanol Performs listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.345/223.10, Now #2
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.301/225.03, Now #1
1:48 PM Two low thirties in the first pair, King close to the track speed record right out of the box.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.329/225.45, Now #2
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.352/207.69, Now #4
Two blower cars squared off here, and both made solid opening runs, the crisp air apparently suiting the blower cars just fine. Pittman misses the track speed mark by 0.04 mph.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.285/228.46, Now #1
Right Lane: Todd Howard No Time, Now #6
Nice pass by Janis to reset the track speed record decisively. Howard launched and shut it down almost immediately with shake.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 12.647/66.89, Now #7
Right Lane: Carl Moyer Runs 6.338/222.80, Now #4
Vick's Camaro turned hard left on the launch and he clicked it off.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana No Time, Now #10
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 7.266/140.33, Now #7
Castellana's car would not fire and Ray's lost fire at the end of the burnout. Ray got it refired, but the car blew a bunch of "stuff" out the headers on the run. It looked like oil, but there was nothing on the track, so maybe it was steam (and that's not good news).
Left Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 6.409/222.18, Now #8
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.301/223.76, Now #3
Two good runs, Jenkins very straight and smooth.
Left Lane: Michael Lockwood No Time, Now #14
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.407/222.88, Now #8
Lockwood made a burnout and then shut it off. Billes' Studebaker was a bit loose over the first 300 feet.
Left Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 13.359/56.37, Now #13
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.233/220.58, Now #1
Hood's Corvette went every direction but straight on the launch and he shut it down. Hahn went right down the groove, the chute out as he crossed the line and still quick enough to reset the track ET record.
Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.318/223.02, Now #5
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.709/170.19, Now #12
This family bragging rights contest was fairly close to about 1,000 feet, then there was a flash of flames from under Mitch's car and he coasted across the line. Quain made a nice, straight, full pass.
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 9.490/105.94, Now #14
Right Lane: Steve Gabriel No Time, Now #20
Gabriel left way before the tree was activated - Martin was still staging! Martin backed out and restaged, then one rear tire broke traction on the launch and Martin backpedaled, then cruised through.
Right Lane: Kjell-Hakan Mostron Runs 14.417/56.26, Now #17
Mostron came all the way from Finland to shake the tires hard and coast through.

7:14 PM Mostron made the trek here from Sweden, not Finland, only to encounter lots of shake in his first run. Martin had problems of his own in the first round. Mostron recovered nicely, his blown Corvette right down the groove, but Martin ran into shake about 200 feet out.

				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 9.565/114.86, Now #8

Best prior run: 6.233/220.58, Was #1

 (W) Al Billes (Quaker State '53 Studebaker) 0.436 6.369 223.54
 (L) Michael Lockwood ('66 Chevy Corvette) 0.523 6.410 221.71

Elimination Round 2

EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Mopar Pro
Modified at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Al Billes (Quaker State '53 Studebaker) 0.538 6.436 222.77
 (L) Steve Vick (Kyles Trucking '68 Chevy Camaro) 0.478 7.456 144.58
2:00 PM Vick leaves first, but has problems before the 330-foot marker and Billes goes by for a surprisingly easy win.
 (W) Carl Moyer (Karl Chevrolet '57 Chevy Bel Air 0.595 11.733 72.72
 (L) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Chevy Corvette) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Hahn staged and then left, the timing system triggered by his rear wheels. Moyer launched and slowed immediately, a winner nonetheless.
 (W) Mike Janis (Jan Cen Engines '63 Chevy Corvet 0.461 6.291 222.66
 (L) Paul Athey (Mohegan Sun '51 Mercury) 0.517 6.331 222.73
All Janis, away first and quickly down the groove with low ET of the round so far. He will have lane choice against Billes in the semifinals.
 (W) Quain Stott (Lee Boy '63 Chevy Corvette) 0.569 6.455 187.68
 (L) Ronnie Hood (Fulwylie M'Sports '63 Chevy Cor 0.000(R) (Broke)
Hood's engine "melted down" in the first round and the team was unable to make the switch in time to answer the staging call, so Stott got a test run here. It may have been a planned 1,000-foot pass, hard to say, Stott on a good run to that point, then slowing. He was more than quick enough to earn lane choice against Moyer in the semifinals.

 (L) Al Billes (Quaker State '53 Studebaker) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Billes made his burnout and had some kind of problem, continuing out the other end to clear the track. Unopposed, Janis took it easy, ceding lane choice to Moyer in the final round.

Finals

EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in
Mopar Pro Modified at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Mike Janis (Jan Cen Engines '63 Chevy Corvet 0.496 6.318 226.58
 (L) Carl Moyer (Karl Chevrolet '57 Chevy Bel Air 0.481 6.352 221.78
5:18 PM We're down to the last two finals - Pro Mod and Top Fuel. Janis was expected to be here, but Moyer has struggled. At one point this season he "retired," only to show up again and put on a great show here. Moyer left first and then had his hands full, going the long route down the right lane in an exciting drag race, Janis the winner but Moyer the sentimental favorite. Margin of victory = 0.019 seconds (approximately 6 feet). That extends Janis' lead in the championship a bit more, but there are still three events to go.
