Left Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.004/234.33, Now #1
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 8.225/105.18, Now #2
1:25 PM Nice opening pass for Dobbs. Cannister's car got off the line okay,
then went into tire shake a couple hundred feet out.
Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 5.970/240.34, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave Ray Runs 6.120/231.56, Now #3
No chute for Ray after a somewhat loose opening pass. Tigges went right down
the groove to post our first five of the weekend.
Left Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 6.271/176.67, Now #5
Right Lane: Dan Roman Runs 5.930/230.02, Now #1
Thomas left hard, then got into shake so hard the car was bouncing and lifted
way down the track. Very nice opening pass for Roman, continuing his hot streak
from Norwalk.
Left Lane: John Vouros Runs 5.909/219.97, Now #1
Right Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.307/202.33, Now #7
Good, straight passes in both lanes, Vouros the new #1 qualifier and
Fiorini's SAAB going right down the groove.
Left Lane: Dale Brand Runs 7.362/128.62, Now #8
Right Lane: James Libby Runs 8.516/101.64, Now #10
Almost had two wallbangers here, Libby shaking and skating around early,
almost collecting the right wall, and Brand getting a bit further before
challenging the left wall.
Left Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.897/238.98, Now #1
Right Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.684/163.43, Now #9
Rector showed how to get down the left lane on a very nice-looking run.
Midyette ran into shake and skate problems about 200 feet out.
Left Lane: Richard Krafft Runs 9.486/92.06, Now #14
Right Lane: George McNeil Runs 6.086/229.51, Now #6
Krafft encountered shake about 100 feet out. McNeil had some shake but drove
through it.
Left Lane: David Rowe Runs 6.102/230.84, Now #8
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.061/234.78, Now #6
Two good runs here, both avoiding the shakes that have plagued some of the
cars this round.
Right Lane: Charles Gambino Runs 6.931/215.96, Now #13
Another of the former Pro Outlaw drivers joins the Funny Car ranks, Gambino
on a new-car single pass in the "Cape Codder." The car shook hard on the launch
and Gambino got completely out of the throttle, then stabbed it again to complete
the run.
Left Lane: Paul Weiss Runs 10.259/84.33, Now #18
Another new-car single, Weiss's car stark black and yellow with no lettering.
Sounded like there wasn't enough clutch in it, the car sluggish and Weiss calling
it off before half track.

best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: James Libby Runs 5.917/235.51, Now #3

pedaled, shook, and called it off.
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.030/233.56, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.061/234.78, Was #7
Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.908/235.80, Now #1

Left Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.904/226.43, Now #2
Best prior run: 8.225/105.18, Was #16
Right Lane: Richard Krafft Runs 6.043/220.26, Now #9
No Prior Run
Two more good runs, these from drivers who had big problems on their first
attempt.
Left Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.526/215.37, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.307/202.33, Was #14
Right Lane: Dale Brand Runs 5.889/236.42, Now #1
Best prior run: 7.362/128.62, Was #17
Brand goes from outside to the penthouse on a very nice run, straight and
smooth. Fiorini made a good, clean run, but Brand ran away from him early in the
pass. Brand left a trail of fluid on the lane, but it was fuel and dried
quickly.
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.160/228.46, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.684/163.43, Was #16
Right Lane: John Vouros Runs 8.869/90.34, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.909/219.97, Was #4
Vouros hazed the tires for about 100 feet, then gave it up. Nice pass by
Midyette to move off the bump spot.
Right Lane: David Rowe Runs 5.992/233.60, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.102/230.84, Was #12
Nice pass for the "Blue Chip," the car smoothly off the starting line and on
rails all the way down the track.
Left Lane: Charles Gambino No Time, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.931/215.96, Was #17
Gambino made a hard burnout, on and off the throttle a couple times. Then
the starting line crew shut him down at the far end of the burnout for a fluid
leak, pushing him back to the line by hand to minimize the damage.
Right Lane: Paul Weiss Runs 8.223/160.59, Now #18
Best prior run: 10.259/84.33, Was #18
New car, new driver. Weiss eased the car off the line and was in and out of
the throttle several times.

Results for Qualifying 3
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the
6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed
time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed
time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: James Libby Runs 11.396/72.51, Now #5
Best prior run: 5.917/235.51, Was #5
Right Lane: John Vouros Runs 5.859/236.46, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.909/219.97, Was #4
1:42 PM Libby launched, got about 200 feet out, shook, and shut it off.
Vouros, purportedly on a race day setup, nailed this one, with a 0.964 60-foot time
and a string-straight run to the top of the ladder.
Left Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.874/238.38, Now #2
Best prior run: 5.904/226.43, Was #4
Right Lane: David Rowe Runs 6.063/232.19, Now #8
Best prior run: 5.992/233.60, Was #8
Cannister was quicker off the line, a 0.946 60-foot time, but drove right
over the bump in the left lane, ending up in second spot nonetheless. Good pass
for Rowe, but off his pace from yesterday.
Left Lane: Dave Ray Runs 6.269/228.73, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.120/231.56, Was #13
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 6.056/236.96, Now #7
Best prior run: 5.970/240.34, Was #7
Ray's car bounced badly at the bump, losing a lot of momentum. Tigges made a
good-looking pass, but his car was slow off the starting line with a 1.059 60-foot
time.
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.385/173.76, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.030/233.56, Was #10
Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.923/238.55, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.897/238.98, Was #4
Rector's car skated to the left, but Rector never lifted and kept it in his
own lane. McMillen was a little behind at half track, then really lost
ground.
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.074/232.07, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.160/228.46, Was #14
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.884/242.02, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.271/176.67, Was #15
Thomas had problems on both runs yesterday and was a bit soft off the line
here, with a 0.991 60-foot time, but then the car was straight and smooth to move
into the top part of the order. Meanwhile, Midyette continued to show improvement,
knocking almost a tenth off his previous best. However, there is oil in Thomas'
lane. From the top end comes the report, the source uncertain because Thomas' car
is dry and clean, so it's not a "black flag" penalty for Thomas.
Left Lane: Dan Roman Runs 8.956/95.77, Now #7
Best prior run: 5.930/230.02, Was #7
Right Lane: Dale Brand No Time, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.889/236.42, Was #4
Roman missed last night's session with a damaged body, the crew working late
into the evening to repair the damage. Brand's car was shut off on the line, a
thin trail of fluid on the launch pad. Roman launched, shook, and shut down
quickly. Brand will get a "black flag" penalty, the cleanup requiring the use of
equipment.
Left Lane: Charles Gambino Runs 6.524/216.13, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.931/215.96, Was #17
Gambino stepped up a ton, but still came up short of the soft 6.307 bump
time.

Results for Qualifying 4
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car
at the 6th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals listing lane, driver name,
elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior
elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.869/241.11, Now #2

Right Lane: Dave Ray Runs 6.143/231.00, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.120/231.56, Was #15
7:32 PM Thomas makes his best pass of the weekend, but comes up short of
Vouros' pole time. Ray loses a couple hundredths on the clocks and will not move
up the ladder.
Left Lane: David Rowe Runs 6.053/231.12, Now #9
Best prior run: 5.992/233.60, Was #9
Right Lane: George McNeil Runs 7.885/119.92, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.086/229.51, Was #14
McNeil shakes hard, pedaled, then gives it up. Rowe made a good pass, but
failed to improve.
Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 8.338/106.94, Now #8
Best prior run: 5.970/240.34, Was #8
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.863/236.84, Now #2
Best prior run: 5.874/238.38, Was #3
Cannister made a nice run, clean and strong, pushing Thomas back down a rung
on the ladder and only a hundredth of a second behind Vouros. Meanwhile, Tigges
had his hands full, the car fishtailing violently from before 330 feet all the way
to the finish line. The reason? Judging from the trail of rice hull ash the PTS
crew put down in his lane, he was running in his own oil. That's a "black flag"
for Tigges. Amazingly, he didn't hit anything, even though the trail of oil-dry
snakes down the left lane and gets very close to the wall two or three times. To
quote Buddy Baker, "He wrecked, he just didn't hit anything."
Left Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.046/227.96, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.004/234.33, Was #10
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.352/215.10, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.030/233.56, Was #11
Looks like the lengthy cleanup did the job, Dobbs within a few hundredths of
his earlier run. McMillen slowed on the top end, couldn't see why.
Left Lane: Dale Brand Runs 5.991/233.72, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.889/236.42, Was #4
Right Lane: John Fiorini Runs 6.423/210.60, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.307/202.33, Was #16
No help for either driver here, Brand with a good run, but a tenth off his
best.
Left Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.878/237.00, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.897/238.98, Was #5
Right Lane: James Libby Runs 5.929/235.23, Now #6
Best prior run: 5.917/235.51, Was #6
One of the cars in the previous pair stopped short, with a small engine fire,
so this pair had to wait a bit before making their burnouts. Two nice runs, Rector
improving just enough to move around Brand on the ladder and Libby just a hundredth
off of his best lap.
Left Lane: John Vouros Runs 5.916/231.87, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.859/236.46, Was #1
Right Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.126/230.45, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.074/232.07, Was #13
These two were side-by-side to half track, then Vouros pulled away with
another strong run.
Right Lane: Charles Gambino Runs 6.342/222.66, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.524/216.13, Was #17
Gambino needed to beat a 6.307 to knock Fiorini and his SAAB from the field.
He came very close to doing so, but will be the first alternate tomorrow.
