Nitro Harley-Davidson at the CARQUEST Empire Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and
position in order following run:
Left Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 6.687/206.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Malloy Runs 8.500/110.59, Now #2
Malloy was bouncing the front tire all the way down the track. Stordeur
labored off the starting line and then blasted through the quarter mile.
Left Lane: Jack Romine Runs 6.809/202.64, Now #2
Right Lane: Ray Price Runs 7.677/128.52, Now #3
Price had some trouble after he set the front tire down around half track.
Romine motored all the way through the 1320.
Left Lane: Bill Furr Runs 6.590/205.26, Now #1
Right Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 6.718/220.01, Now #3
Furr with a 1.083 second 60-foot time and took it to the number one spot.
Mancuso with a baseline pass here.
Left Lane: Stan Verheijen Runs 6.859/195.00, Now #6
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.473/220.15, Now #1
Vancil with a great pass here for the number one spot and a big time mile per
hour. Verheijen off his win at the last race in Cordova in the show for now.
Left Lane: Tony Mattioli Runs 6.589/221.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 6.676/214.66, Now #4
Mattioli with a good looking pass to jump into the number two spot. Romine
was right behind him to get into the top half of the show.
Left Lane: Jay Turner No Time, Now #11
Turner had problems before burnout and shuts it off. He will have three more
chances this weekend as the Harleys now have four qualifying shots.

Romine made his first pass on a rebuilt engine in the first round and was
pretty happy with the result, well he will be a lot happier with a good looking pass

Furr had trouble on the burnout and drove it on through the quarter mile.
Vancil with a great looking pass dropping the front tire down just past half track.
He will take the number one spot for now and sets the World Mile per Hour Record
here with the 221.85.

Romine shut it down around half track. Turner smoked the slick around 100

A couple of non-qualified riders here. And neither one will do it here, as
Price was wrestling the bike to keep it off the guardrail and finally shut it off.
Romine with no help here.

Malloy at risk of not qualifying for the first time this year as he smoked the
tire right off the stating line. Stordeur with a little improvement, but not enough
to move him up.

Verheijen made a move in the right direction, but not enough to move up in the
program.

As the sun is starting to set the temperature is 75 degrees, humidity is 48%,
and the barometer is 29.89 inches. Mattioli after smoking the tire in the earlier
round has made a change in the clutch, put a new rear tire on it, and also made a
gear and fuel change. Mattioli smoked the tire right off the starting line. Price
thought all he needed was one more run to get it figured out and he was right. That
bumped out Stordeur and gives us the quickest Nitro Harley field ever.

Furr got it up on the wheelie bar a couple times and smoked the tire before he
clicked it off. Romine made a move in the right direction, but did not move up in
the ladder.

Both bikes drive all the way through the 1320, but no help for either of these
two and Malloy will miss his first show of the year. Verheijen is now on the
bump.

This is a great side by side drag race with the Team Mancuso bikes. Stordeur
got back into the show with this pass bumping out Verheijen the last race
winner.

turner changed the sprocket before this pass. This is another great drag

We start eliminations under sunny skies and the temperature around 74 degrees,
humidity is 52% and the barometer is 29.99 inches.
Vancil with a great pass
and a new World ET record. Price with his best pass of the weekend, but comes up
short.

Stordeur with the first 6.30 in IHRA History with a great looking pass, and
Romine with his quickest pass of the weekend, but it is not enough.

Mancuso had problems right off the starting line and Furr was out of the gate
first and never looked back to take the win light.

Turner turned on the big redlight and that gave Mattioli the freebie. I am
not sure if he saw the redlight or had problems because he was off the throttle
immediately.
Mattioli will give up lane choice to Furr, and the new World
Record holder Vancil will give up lane choice to the first-ever -in the 6.30's
Stordeur in the next round.

The two quickest bikes in IHRA history and they both go up in smoke as soon as
they hit the throttle. Vancil got it to hook, but headed toward the centerline and
had to lift. Stordeur was able to get back on the throttle and chase him down for
the win.

Furr smoke the tire right off the starting line and when got off the throttle
and back on it the bike just died. Mattioli was never able to get it to hook up,
but had enough to take the win. He will have lane choice in the final.

Stordeur launched hard and had made up the starting line advantage Mattioli
had on him by 200 feet. Then around the 330-foot mark Stordeur's front wheel came
down hard and that was the end of his day. Mattioli with his second win of the
season with his quickest pass of eliminations.
