Results for Qualifying 1
GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Screamin'
Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts Nationals presented
by Castrol listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order
following run:
Left Lane: Jay Turner Runs 7.867/117.40, Now #2
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.456/215.46, Now #1
6:45 PM Turner got out of the throttle around half track, but Vancil gave
the rest of the field something to shoot at on a nice run.
Left Lane: Tony Mattioli Runs 6.863/175.57, Now #2
Right Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 6.907/195.10, Now #3
Mattioli had to back off the throttle on the top end, his bike very close to
the wall. Didn't see what happened to Mancuso, too busy watching Mattioli.
Left Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 14.074/58.01, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 7.338/152.77, Now #4
Stordeur slowed almost immediately, Romine around half track.
Left Lane: Bob Malloy Runs 15.742/76.05, Now #8
Right Lane: Jack Romine Runs 7.298/191.28, Now #4
Malloy spun the tire hard, then shook and shut it off. Romine's bike was a
bit sluggish in the first part of the run.
Left Lane: Mark Conner Runs 6.765/181.23, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Furr Runs 10.683/78.76, Now #8
SDomehting came off Furr's bike around the 330-foot marker and he slowed.
Looked like a number plate, but something made it come off. Nice run for Conner,
the speed unexpectedly low, so he must have shut it down on the top end.
Left Lane: Ray Price Runs 6.768/205.38, Now #3
"The old man" got very close to the wall and never lifted, leaning way to the
right to stay off the Armco.

Results for Qualifying 2
GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Screamin'
Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts Nationals presented
by Castrol listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in
order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to
run:
Left Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 11.254/87.66, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.907/195.10, Was #5
Right Lane: Tony Mattioli Runs 7.535/134.36, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.863/175.57, Was #4
2:18 PM Mancuso had problems with the bike going to the right and abandoned
the run early-on. Mattioli was on a good pass to about 1,000 feet, then had
problems with the engine and slowed.
Left Lane: Bill Furr No Time, Now #9
Best prior run: 10.683/78.76, Was #9
Right Lane: Jay Turner Runs 6.597/194.21, Now #2
Best prior run: 7.867/117.40, Was #8
Furr broke in the water and will have to hope for another chance tonight.
Turner made a nice run, the speed surprisingly low.
Left Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.599/214.89, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.456/215.46, Was #1
Right Lane: Mark Conner Runs 6.777/187.81, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.765/181.23, Was #3
Conner's bike kept drifting left and something came off the bike around 1,000
feet - looked like a number plate. Meanwhile, Vancil made his second good pass of
the event, smooth and straight.
Left Lane: Mike Romine Runs 6.774/188.28, Now #6
Best prior run: 7.338/152.77, Was #8
Right Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 6.571/188.60, Now #2
Best prior run: 14.074/58.01, Was #10
There was a loud POP from one of these bikes when it fired, probably
Stordeur. Whatever it was, neither bike appeared to be wounded, Stordeur bumping
Jack Romine and Mike Romine moving off the bubble.
Left Lane: Jack Romine Runs 15.560/47.99, Now #9
Best prior run: 7.298/191.28, Was #9
Right Lane: Ray Price Runs 7.121/201.70, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.768/205.38, Was #5
The bump was Johnny Mancuso's 6.907, but just-bumped Romine smoked the tire
on the launch and was unable to dislodge Mancuso. Price's bike went right down the
groove today after making a wall inspection pass yesterday.
Right Lane: Bob Malloy Runs 6.834/181.37, Now #7
Best prior run: 15.742/76.05, Was #11
Final bike of the round, also shooting at Mancuso's 6.907. Malloy had just
enough to do it, his bike faltering and wobbling around the 1,000-foot marker and
slowing, but quick enough to do the deed. That puts Mattioli on the bubble with a
6.863 with one round left (maybe).

Results for Qualifying 3
GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts Nationals
presented by Castrol listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round,
position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in
order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ray Price No Time, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.768/205.38, Was #5
Right Lane: Bill Furr Runs 6.882/196.72, Now #9
Best prior run: 10.683/78.76, Was #11
10:35 PM Price broke on the burnout and didn't run. Furr came up just short
of Tony Mattioli's 6.863 bump time and won't be in eliminations.
Left Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 6.656/210.82, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.571/188.60, Was #2
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 7.998/110.75, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.774/188.28, Was #6
Stordeur's bike went to the right, very close to the centerline. Romine was
off the pace by half track, the exhaust flames going out shortly after.
Left Lane: Mark Conner Runs 16.595/52.44, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.765/181.23, Was #4
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.525/213.37, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.456/215.46, Was #1
Conner slowed immediately. Vancil made the best run of the round so far, but
not quite as good as his earlier effort.
Left Lane: Tony Mattioli Runs 10.339/86.43, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.863/175.57, Was #8
Right Lane: Jack Romine Runs 6.806/193.96, Now #7
Best prior run: 7.298/191.28, Was #11
Both Jack Romine and Johnny Mancuso were out of the field when these two
launched and Mattioli lost fire immediately, coasting through, unable to defend
himself against Romine's nice run, good enough to bump Mattioli and get Romine far
enough into the field to be bump-proof when Mancuso runs. Now the bump time is Bob
Malloy's 6.834.
Left Lane: Bob Malloy Runs 13.990/76.40, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.834/181.37, Was #8
Right Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 7.137/189.67, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.907/195.10, Was #11
Same situation and Malloy looked like he was in rough shape when he smoked
the rear tire on the launch, but Mancuso was unable to run the number, his bike off
pace all the way.
Left Lane: Jay Turner Runs 6.510/206.37, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.597/194.21, Was #3
Final bike of the round and Turner fights the bike all the way down, leaning
way to the left to stay off the centerline, the run quick enough to move him to the
second spot, on the opposite side of the ladder from Vancil.

Results for Elimination Round 1
GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts Nationals
presented by Castrol:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.497 6.477 205.62
(L) Bob Malloy ('00 Pro-Fab) 0.513 7.728 169.42
12:02 PM Malloy's bike tried to go to the right and he was hanging way off
the left side trying to keep it going straight. meanwhile, Vancil was running away
from Malloy, an easy winner with an easy-looking pass.
(W) Mark Conner (Alamo City H-D '00 Weekend) 0.435 7.398 162.74
(L) Ray Price (Ray Price H-D '00 Dixie) 0.577 7.789 196.85
This one was bizarre, Conner away quickly and on a strong pass while Price
was late and his bike was sluggish. Then something gave up in Conner's engine and
Price's bike ran strong on the top end, almost running Conner down. Conner races
Vancil next round, Vancil with lane choice.
(W) Jay Turner (Waugh Enterprises '00 Dixie) 0.468 6.546 209.25
(L) Jack Romine (Homewood H-D '99 Puppet) 0.514 (Broke)
Romine's engine died on the launch, coasting to a stop near the tree, giving
Turner a "walkover." Turner didn't walk, however, making a very nice, very quick,
very fast pass.
(W) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '99 Weekend) 0.487 6.507 203.20
(L) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '01 Weekend) 0.501 8.937 91.32
The winner here faces Turner in the semifinals. Romine fell steadily behind,
the front wheel of his bike coming back to Earth before half track. Storduer, on a
new bike this weekend, has been steadily improving with each pass and he takes lane
choice against Turner into the next round.

GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts Nationals
presented by Castrol:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.510 6.490 209.88
(L) Mark Conner (Alamo City H-D '00 Weekend) 0.000(R) (Broke)
5:57 PM Conner broke on the burnout. Vancil made yet another quick, smooth
run, very consistent all weekend.
(W) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '99 Weekend) 0.506 6.620 202.42
(L) Jay Turner (Waugh Enterprises '00 Dixie) 0.485 7.904 119.18
The winner races Vancil in the finals. Turner left first, but spun the tire
and then started losing ground rapidly, something obviously not right with the
engine. Stordeur won easily, but for the first time this weekend, ran slower than
his previous run and lost lane choice to Vancil.

Results for Final Round
GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 3 eliminations
in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Second annual Mopar Performance Parts
Nationals presented by Castrol:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.490 6.551 204.35
(L) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '99 Weekend) 0.469 6.633 209.93
7:37 PM This is the first Pro final round of the weekend - for that matter,
the first final round of any kind for the weekend, the Sportsman competitors still
trying to finish round one!
Vancil sheds the bridesmaid's role after two
runner-up finishes in a row this year, very consistent all weekend. Stordeur was
away first, but his new mount was not consistent enough and he fell off his earlier
pace, the margin of victory = 0.061 seconds (approximately 19 feet).
