Right Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 6.598/200.68, Now #1

pass by Stordeur, smooth and straight.
Left Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 9.041/98.86, Now #4
Right Lane: Jack Romine Runs 6.946/185.59, Now #2
Mancuso's Harley wanted to cross the centerline. Mancuso did all he could,
but finally gave up. Nothing visibly wrong with Romine's run, but he was off the
pace.
Left Lane: Tony Mattioli Runs 12.271/98.82, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 6.754/176.03, Now #2
Mattioli's engine went quiet almost immediately. Romine's run looked good,
but the engine went away on the top end.
Left Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.702/207.72, Now #2
Right Lane: Stan Verheijen Runs 6.948/185.82, Now #5
Nice pass by Vancil to open his weekend. Verheijen's run looked okay, but he
needs to find a few tenths somewhere.
Left Lane: Ray Price Runs 10.772/78.49, Now #8
Right Lane: Jay Turner No Time, Now #10
Turner's bike went just a few feet and then stopped. Price appeared to have
a clean launch, but then the engine went very sour and sputtered to a stop.
Left Lane: Mark Cox Runs 6.845/189.02, Now #4
Right Lane: Joe Scatella No Time, Now #12
Scatella's bike wouldn't fire, so he towed it back to the pits. Cox made a
good opening pass, something they should be able to tune from.

Results for Elimination Round 1
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Third annual CARQUEST Autumn Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.480 6.600 198.15
(L) Bill Furr (Belt Drives Ltd '00 Dixie) 0.487 9.319 120.47
12:23 PM Furr's chances went up in smoke at the starting line, his rear tire
enveloped in tire smoke.
(W) Mark Cox ('00 Weekend) 0.475 6.834 200.32
(L) Ray Price (Ray Price H-D '00 Dixie) 0.611 (Broke)
Price dumped the clutch and the chain broke. Nice run by Cox, his fifth full
pass of the weekend. However, he loses lane choice to Vancil next round.
(W) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '99 Weekend) 0.493 7.803 158.28
(L) Johnny Mancuso (Mancuso H-D '00 Weekend) 1.221 8.139 108.25
Stordeur is in the points chase, so it was no surprise when team owner
Mancuso was a tad late at the green. It got very interesting when Stordeur's
engine died on the top end and Mancuso almost overtook him.
(W) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '01 Weekend) 0.489 6.772 194.94
(L) Jay Turner (Team Bulldog '00 Dixie) 0.471 8.688 112.34
Turner smoked the tire, backed off, tried again, and rode out the bucking
bronco to no avail, Romine on a good, clean run for the win and lane choice against
Stordeur next round.
Sunday
Results for Elimination Round 2
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Third annual CARQUEST Autumn Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.497 6.522 207.02
(L) Mark Cox ('00 Weekend) 0.356(R) 6.674 199.55
3:50 PM Vancil leads Steve Stordeur in the points battle by just 110 points,
so he needs to keep "going rounds" to maintain his lead. He gets a gift here and
probably didn't need it, running low ET of the meet. Cox wasted a good run, but
would have needed an almost perfect light just to have a chance.
(W) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '01 Weekend) 0.513 7.109 202.24
(L) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '99 Weekend) 5.036 (Broke)
Both bikes bogged off the line, but Romine was able to get it picked up again
while Stordeur's bike sputtered to a stop at half track. That really hurts
Stordeur's championship hopes, Vancil still in the event and "going rounds."
Romine will face Vancil in the finals, Vancil with lane choice.
Sunday
Results for Final Round
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 3 eliminations
in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley at the Third annual CARQUEST Autumn Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Weekend) 0.498 6.447 206.64
(L) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '01 Weekend) 0.454 6.764 172.89
9:37 PM The track crew put down more traction compound and dragged the
surface with tractor-mounted tires in an attempt to regain the top end traction the
rain washed away. Based on Vancil's run, they did a good job, Vancil carrying the
front wheel all the way past the 1,000-foot marker before putting it down, winning
easily with low ET of the weekend.
