Right Lane: Chuck De Mory Runs 7.355/196.87, Now #3

Left Lane: Randy Moore Runs 6.685/208.07, Now #3
Right Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 6.651/209.36, Now #2
Two nice, straight passes here...

Right Lane: David Jenkins Runs 6.670/208.55, Now #5

Left Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 6.737/205.69, Now #9
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.598/209.82, Now #1

Right Lane: Tony Fox Runs 7.784/171.71, Now #16
Fox's Mustang bogged on the launch, then came back to life - looked almost like he was using a throttle stop! Nice, clean pass by Miller.
Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 6.661/211.30, Now #8
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 6.730/205.32, Now #13

Right Lane: Bob Holzer Runs 13.973/59.03, Now #20
Holzer got the wheels way up and then the car slowed. Pretty good run by Spiess, but only good enough for the bottom part of the ever-quickening field.
Left Lane: Jason Collins Runs 6.662/210.80, Now #9
Right Lane: Ed Machacek Runs 6.702/207.30, Now #15

And Kirk lowers the bump even further.
Right Lane: Terry Leggett Runs 6.678/206.51, Now #12

Left Lane: Richard Penland No Time, Now #27
Penland came up to make his inaugural pass in Pro Stock, but had problems on the line and didn't make a run.
Right Lane: Wally Stroupe Runs 12.981/83.66, Now #24
New car for Stroupe, a '01 Pontiac Grand Am, so he also got a solo pass. The new car blues did him in, the car turning hard right on the launch, barely missing the wall.

David Jenkins has survived the round so far on the bubble and Gahm has the last chance to knock him off. He'll have to run a weekend best. No dice, Gahm drives through the clutch and shuts it down at half track. Maybe Jenkins should buy a lottery ticket for tonight's drawing?

Results for Elimination Round 1

DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Inaugural AC Delco Nationals presented by Chevrolet:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Jason Collins ('98 Ford Probe) 0.560 6.717 209.14
 (L) John Montecalvo ('01 Chevy Cavalier) 0.478 10.126 110.40
12:24 PM The Invocation is given and both the Canadian and American National Anthems are sung and we are ready for Round one eliminations. The Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock hit the track first. Montecalvo gets out of shape at the start, giving the easy win to Collins.
 (W) Randy Moore ('98 Ford Probe) 0.523 6.677 208.84
 (L) Elijah Morton ('99 Ford Probe) 0.387(R) 11.875 72.44
Red light start ends Morton's weekend.
 (W) Angelo Alesci ('01 Chevy Cavalier) 0.493 6.680 208.49
 (L) Terry Leggett ('00 Ford Mustang) 0.511 6.687 208.26
Alesci gets it done from start to finish and makes the first good run down the right lane.
 (W) Ron Miller ('01 Pontiac Grand Am) 0.477 6.631 209.49
 (L) Jerry Yeoman ('00 Pontiac Firebird) 0.492 6.683 208.78
Miller plans on switching to a Cavalier later this year but for now will run the Grand Am, even though the hood scoop clearance problems have not been competely resovled. Miller has both ends of the track covered.
 (W) Dwayne Rice ('99 Pontiac Firebird) 0.483 6.676 207.85
 (L) Carl Baker ('01 Mercury Cougar) 0.447 6.744 210.50
Rice has run .65's all weekend. Baker gets the starting line advantage but Rice nails him at top end. Margin of victory = 0.032 seconds (approximately 10 feet). Rice gets Miller next round but loses lane choice.
 (W) Doug Kirk ('98 Chevy Monte Carlo) 0.507 6.760 208.65
 (L) John Konigshofer ('97 Ford Probe) 0.504 6.767 206.51
This was tight all the way, including almost identical RT's. Kirk's Margin of victory = 0.004 seconds (approximately 15 inches). It doesn't get any easier next round as Kirk loses lane choice to Alesci by .007.
 (W) Gene Wilson (Don Smith '00 Mercury Cougar) 0.496 6.632 210.01
 (L) Steve Williford ('01 Chevy Cavalier) 0.397(R) 6.668 207.62
Williford goes red against an uncharacteristic late start for Wilson. Wilson with lane choice vs. Moore in round 2.
 (W) Tom Lee ('00 Ford Mustang) 0.449 6.658 209.36
 (L) David Jenkins ('96 Ford Probe) 0.461 6.769 208.55
No problem for Lee as he takes advantage of his No. 1 qualifying spot and runs a solid 6.65, good enough for lane choice next round vs. Collins.
