GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Mopar Pro Modified at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 7.369/133.14, Now #1
Right Lane: Billy Harper No Time, Now #2
3:49 PM Harper let out the clutch and something in his Viper broke. Hoover lost power on the top end of the run, reason not obvious from here.
Left Lane: Kevin O'Dell Runs 14.174/77.52, Now #3
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.476/219.51, Now #1
A few weeks ago, Stott looked unbeatable - and then at Budds Creek he failed to qualify in the sixteen-car field. With Fred Hahn just two points behind him in the championship chase, Stott needs to return to his overpowering form here. Which one will we see this weekend? His first pass looked a bit tentative, but it was a good tuning pass. O'Dell let the clutch out and his Chevelle went every way but straight, forcing him to lift to save the car.
Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.629/213.77, Now #2
Jenkins was not staged when Pittman ran. Pittman left a trail of fluid all the way down the track. Then Jenkins was waved through for failing to stage in time.
Left Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 8.579/111.51, Now #5
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.423/218.02, Now #1
Cossis launched and then slowed almost immediately. Nice pass by Castellana, clean and smooth.
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 7.335/161.73, Now #4
Right Lane: Andy Neyer Runs 15.865/53.77, Now #8
Neyer could find no traction despite several tries.
Left Lane: Chuck Nuytten Runs 11.425/78.37, Now #8
Right Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.598/211.69, Now #3
Nice pass by Baker. Nuytten shook on the launch, the a trail of smoke started appearing behind his car, getting heavier the further he went. But a track check showed no oil and we continue.
Left Lane: Pat Moore Runs 11.595/72.70, Now #10
Right Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 6.436/219.76, Now #2
Moore shook and shut it down, skating all over the launch pad. Nice pass by Hood, clean and straight.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 9.677/91.59, Now #10
Right Lane: Tommy Mauney Runs 6.310/223.62, Now #1
Same story, an outstanding pass by Mauney, shake and pedal for Vick.
Left Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 6.564/212.49, Now #5
Right Lane: Dale Brinsfield No Time, Now #18
Brinsfield broke as he prepared to stage. Torkelson showed it's possible to get down the left lane.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 10.296/92.06, Now #13
Right Lane: Chris Cline Runs 6.849/177.28, Now #8
Started out to be the same story, then Cline's car started trailing smoke and slowed on the top end.
Left Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.640/212.26, Now #8
Right Lane: Frankie Taylor Runs 6.675/211.89, Now #9
Two full passes here.
Left Lane: Dan Rowe Runs 7.058/153.58, Now #11
Right Lane: Matt Tolbert No Time, Now #24
Tolbert had a blower explosion on the launch, the nose of the big blue Superbird cocked up at about a 30-degree angle from the force of the explosion.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 10.941/80.39, Now #18
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.250/228.58, Now #1
Stott's car shook and he shut it down, but Hahn made a perfect-looking pass to take the pole position with ease and he posted a speed that is almost 1 mph faster than his World record.
Left Lane: Chip King Runs 9.165/98.21, Now #17
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.337/222.73, Now #3
King launched into shake and tried to drive through it, but finally threw in the towel. Critchley made a smooth, clean run, car owner Johnny Rocca looking a bit disappointed by the numbers.
Right Lane: Danny McVay Runs 9.965/105.29, Now #19
McVay closes the session with an off-pace run.

Results for Qualifying 2

GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Mopar Pro Modified at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.737/210.31, Now #10
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Chuck Nuytten No Time, Now #19
				No Prior Run
1:06 PM Nuytten broke at the line. Nice pass by Ashton to get in, but that time won't hold up.
Left Lane: Tommy Mauney Runs 6.309/222.88, Now #2
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.544/214.14, Now #7
				No Prior Run
Mauney ran a 6.31 yesterday but was five pounds light at the scales. So he did it again. McAmis had problems yesterday and bypassed the scales - hew, too, got in, but with a time that may not hold up.
Left Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.621/211.89, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.598/211.69, Was #9
Right Lane: Pat Moore Runs 6.458/218.12, Now #6

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 8.889/98.02, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.423/218.02, Was #4
Right Lane: Kevin O'Dell Runs 8.287/184.27, Now #17
				No Prior Run
O'Dell's car was violently all over the lane on the launch yesterday. Same thing today, the driver's door flying open from the shake.
Left Lane: Dale Brinsfield Runs 9.767/92.63, Now #19
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 6.509/216.48, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.564/212.49, Was #9
Brinsfield got launched, but shut it down by the 330-foot marker. Nice pass by Torkelson.
Left Lane: Andy Neyer Runs 12.427/68.79, Now #22
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.444/220.44, Now #6
				No Prior Run
Jenkins didn't get past the starting line yesterday. Nice pass today to get solidly in the field. Neyer spun the tires, pedaled, spun, pedaled, spun, then gave it up.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.527/217.46, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.629/213.77, Was #12
Right Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 6.732/171.10, Now #14
				No Prior Run
Pittman's first burnout attempt was weak, so he did it again, with better results. He shook and pedaled out of it. Cossis had problems on the top end and slowed.
Left Lane: Chris Cline Runs 6.925/165.29, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.849/177.28, Was #16
Right Lane: Dan Rowe Runs 7.449/135.33, Now #17

Best prior run: 6.675/211.89, Was #13
Right Lane: Harold Martin No Time, Now #18
Best prior run: 7.335/161.73, Was #18
Nice pass for Taylor. Martin's car just sat there, lots of dark smoke from under the car before he shut it off.
Left Lane: Billy Harper Runs 6.769/207.21, Now #16
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.911/151.15, Now #18
Best prior run: 9.165/98.21, Was #20
Harper had problems getting the car launched cleanly. King was on a great run to half track, but then the car nosed over.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.894/208.88, Now #18
Best prior run: 10.296/92.06, Was #23
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.441/219.47, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.476/219.51, Was #8
Both cars got very sideways here, Billes about 100 feet out and Stott at half track.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 8.561/106.81, Now #23
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 6.666/179.11, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.436/219.76, Was #5
This was a close call for both drivers, Hoover's '63 Corvette trying to dart across the centerline at 330 feet and Hood's getting severely sideways at the 1,000-foot marker. Both did their job and kept the cars off the walls and in their lanes.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 11.091/92.93, Now #25
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.378/206.07, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.337/222.73, Was #3
Stott's '63 Corvette tried to cross the centerline on the launch and he had to shut it down, while Critchley's '49 Mercury went right down the groove.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 8.128/120.40, Now #22
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.303/228.27, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.250/228.58, Was #1
Vick got very sideways about 300 feet out, while Hahn went right down the groove. Hahn backs up his pending speed record - barring, of course, the dreaded post-event technical review that took the speed record away from Quain Stott based on incremental times and speeds.

 (W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.479 6.399 223.47
 (L) Quain Stott (Lee Boy '63 Corvette) 0.463 6.589 216.55
Hmmm, brotherly love doesn't extend to the race track, Quain in a tight race for the championship and Mitch taking him out when Quain's Corvette got very loose and fell back early in the race. Mitch gets lane choice against Pittman next round.
 (W) Troy Critchley (Prolong Iron Horse '49 Mercu0.527 6.333 222.80
 (L) Ronnie Hood (Fulwylie M'Sports '63 Corvette)0.499 10.025 89.16
Both cars were all over the first 330 feet of their lane, Critchley getting it tamed down to complete the run and Hood having to call it quits to save his car.
 (W) Mike Castellana (Western Beef '57 Bel Air) 0.451 6.379 220.80
 (L) Frankie Taylor ('00 Firebird) 0.629 6.424 218.55
Castellana was very prompt and Taylor was very late - and then Castellana ran off and hid.
 (W) Tommy Mauney (Red Line Oil '41 Willys) 0.520 6.350 221.92
 (L) Harold Martin (AC Delco '00 Firebird) 0.571 6.507 217.04

 (W) Steve Vick (Kyles Trucking '68 Camaro) 0.462 6.359 222.44
 (L) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.465 8.899 103.09
Hoover was over next to the centerline, then over near the wall, then out of the race, while Vick went right down the groove. Vick advances, but loses lane choice to Critchley in round two.
 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '54 Corvette) 0.485 6.353 225.41
 (L) Billy Harper ('00 Viper) 0.452 6.656 217.77
Final pair of the round, Hahn looking to increase the small points lead he held over Quain Stott after qualifying was completed. Harper left first, but his Viper got out of shape and fishtailed violently. He reined it in and continued, but lost a lot of time doing so. Hahn advances easily, with lane choice against Neyer in round two.

Results for Elimination Round 2

GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Mopar Pro Modified at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.425 6.360 224.40
 (L) Alan Pittman (Westbrook M'Sports '41 Willys)0.483 6.424 220.01
7:07 PM The place is still buzzing about Mitch taking out his brother in round one, but Mitch said that's the way they were raised, "You don't get anything handed to you, you have to earn it for yourself." Here he earned a trip to the semifinals on a nice pass.
 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '54 Corvette) 0.492 6.352 225.75
 (L) Andy Neyer ('93 Corvette) 0.496 6.564 209.98
They left together, but Neyer got out of the groove and was fishtailing very close to the wall, forcing him to lift. Hahn advances easily, lengthening his points lead.
 (W) Tommy Mauney (Red Line Oil '41 Willys) 0.500 6.444 217.74
 (L) Mike Castellana (Western Beef '57 Bel Air) 0.448 9.328 95.08
Castellana got a big holeshot, but shake and dance was all he got after that and Mauney advances to the semifinals on an off-pace run. He loses lane choice to Hahn, however.
 (W) Steve Vick (Kyles Trucking '68 Camaro) 1.298 6.400 221.34
 (L) Troy Critchley (Prolong Iron Horse '49 Mercu0.000(R) (Broke)
Critchley's car would not fire and the team tried to push start it - unsuccessfully. Wouldn't have been legal anyway, self-starters required in Pro Mod. Vick advances, losing lane choice to Mitch Stott.

Results for Elimination Round 3

GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Mopar Pro Modified at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.469 6.346 223.84
 (L) Steve Vick (Kyles Trucking '68 Camaro) 0.433 9.997 88.76
8:29 PM Mitch Stott is very consistent tonight, all three runs in the 6.30s. Vick got a great light, but his car was left of the groove and fishtailing and he shut it down.
 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '54 Corvette) 0.485 6.351 225.22
 (L) Tommy Mauney (Red Line Oil '41 Willys) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Hahn gets a freebie, Mauney's crew unable to get the car repaired for the round. Hahn fired a clean, straight pass down the groove, extremely consistent with runs of 6.353, 6.352, and 6.351but loses lane choice to Mitch Stott in the final round and will probably find himself in the less-favored left lane for that matchup.

Results for Final Round

GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Mopar Pro Modified at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.475 6.334 223.84
 (L) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '54 Corvette) 0.451 6.412 218.65
9:50 PM Lane choice was a factor, Hahn a little out of the groove and a little loose, negating his starting line advantage. Stott's win is a small retribution for defeating his brother in the first round, keeping Hahn from extending his lead over Quain Stott by another 20 points. The Pro Mod title chase goes to Rockingham, three weeks from now, Hahn leading by 67 points.
