GILLIAM, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Screamin' Eagle
Nitro Harley at the 3rd annual Mopar Parts World Finals listing lane, rider name,
elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mark Conner Runs 8.527/152.24, Now #2
Right Lane: Jay Turner Runs 6.669/205.98, Now #1
3:17 PM Points-leader Turner came off his "slump" at Budds Creek and comes
out of the box ready to race here, a very nice opening qualifying pass. Conner
launched and slowed almost immediately.
Left Lane: Ray Price Runs 8.706/105.03, Now #4
Right Lane: Jim McClure Runs 6.670/194.69, Now #2
Price slowed around half track, already off the pace, while McClure went right
down the groove on a pretty pass.
Left Lane: Bill Furr Runs 7.748/139.41, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 7.359/184.98, Now #3
Romine was on a good pass but something went away on the top end, maybe a
broken chain. Furr was off the pace all the way.
Left Lane: Jack Romine Runs 9.134/101.67, Now #8
Right Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 7.549/201.40, Now #4
Mancuso had problems, got completely out of the throttle, then hammered it
again, thus the slow ET and big speed. Romine had problems early and never did gat
back on the throttle.
Left Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 7.038/202.03, Now #4
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.574/203.77, Now #1
Stordeur is Turner's chief competition for the title. He smoked the rear tire
and had to back off the throttle to regain traction. No problems for Vancil, a
nice, smooth, easy pass.

Price with the slight hole shot, but then had problems around half track. McClure
with his slowest pass of the weekend, but enough to move into round two .

(L) Johnny Mancuso (Mancuso Racing '98 Harley) 0.465 9.063 107.71 Mancuso smoked the big rear slick right off the starting line and that was the
end of his day. Stordeur keeps his championship hopes alive.

(L) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '00 Harley) 0.493 6.658 206.42 They left together and were glued together all the way down the 1320 with
Vancil squeaking out the win. Margin of victory = 0.033 seconds (approximately 10
feet).
(W) Bill Furr (Belt Drives Ltd '99 Harley) 0.477 6.656 205.76
(L) Jay Turner (Waugh Enterprises '00 Harley) 0.503 6.666 205.44 Furr was out of the gate first and never looked back to put Turner on the
trailer. This really opens up the door for Stordeur as he was trailing Turner by
only 27 coming into this event, so if he can win the next round will leave with the
lead.
McClure with his choice over Stordeur, and Vancil with his choice over
Furr.

With a win here Stordeur can take over the point lead. They left the line
together, but from there on it was all Stordeur to take the win and the point
lead.

(L) Doug Vancil (Vance & Hines '00 Harley) 0.487 6.600 202.88
Furr strapped a hole shot on Vancil and had the power to hold him off for the
win. Furr will have lane choice in the final.

track, that is when Stordeur rode around him to take the win. With the win Stordeur
increased his point to 34 points.
