 CORDOVA, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the 21st annual Amalie Motor Oil Summer Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: J.R. Todd No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Don Reed Runs 7.002/132.49, Now #1

The high expectation of the debut for Jr Todd are really disappointing. It looked like something mechanical maybe because when the light turn green nothing happened. Reed labored on through the quarter mile.

Left Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 5.150/272.78, Now #1
Right Lane: Louie Allison Runs 5.396/217.46, Now #2

Bailey dropped cylinders right off the starting line, but drove it on through the quarter mile. Allison clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.942/297.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.016/287.11, Now #2

This was a great looking race. Millican launched hard and kept the candles lite all the way down the quarter mile. Head was right there with him.

Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 5.069/238.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Paul Romine Runs 5.215/274.94, Now #5

Romine dropped a cylinder right off the starting line, but keep his foot in it. Litton started to haze the tires around half track.

Here we go with the the Kings and Queens of the sport. Shirley shows the new kid on the block how it is done in the big leagues. Shirley with the fastest pass in IHRA history. That was a great drag race.

Bailey started to haze the tires, he pedaled it around the 200-foot mark and then blistered the Goodyears. Reed had trouble right off the stating line and aborted it.

Litton had problems right off the starting line. Romine with a clean pass to take over the number two spot.

Head dropped cylinders right off the starting line and never picked them up. Millican with another good safe pass, Kloeber told me yesterday he is just running a conservative tune up in the car.

Bailey had problems right off the starting line, and clicked it off. Allison with his best pass of the weekend and that puts Bailey on the bump.

Both cars launched hard and were side by side until about 800 feet and then Litton had a big fishtail of smoke and oil. That will cost him the run and 15 points. He ran a 4.916 seconds at 287.05 mph.

After a long clean up and Millican made his best pass of weekend in that lane. Romine was right with him until half track and then he started mixing up cylinders and clicked it off.

Muldowney launched hard and had all the candles lit until about 1000 feet, but she will hold on to the number one spot.

They leave together, but Romine has by the 60-foot mark and then stretched out from there. This was great side-by-side drag race.
(W) Louie Allison (Vista Foods Dragster) 0.522 4.993 297.42
(L) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.521 5.155 271.84
Again they leave together and are glue together until around 1000 feet and then Head had some engine smoke like the engine was going away. Allison with his first round win ever and the first time into the fours.
(W) Jim Bailey (Snap-On Racing Dragster) 0.633 4.862 294.37
(L) Shirley Muldowney (goracing.com Dragster) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Muldowney left before the tree was activated and that gave Bailey a freebie. Bailey made the best of it running his best pass of the weekend.

(L) Clay Millican (stealthsponsor.com Dragster) 0.535 4.818 306.53
Litton left first, but Millican was right there with him all the way down the quarter mile. Litton started smoking and oiling the track starting around half track, but held on to win. That will cost Litton some more points. Romine will have his lane choice against Bailey, and Allison will get his choice against Litton.

Allison was thrashing as they they were pulling into the lanes. Litton apparently found out the what has been causing him problems all weekend. Litton was out of the gate first and clean all the way through the quarter mile. Allison started oiling the track around 400 feet.

(L) Jim Bailey (Snap-On Racing Dragster) 0.504 4.960 282.48
After about a half an hour cleanup we are back in action. This a was a great drag race. Bailey left first, but Romine had caught by the 330-foot mark and just drove away from him from there.

The all Indy final and Litton is out of the gate first, and had the power to
hold off the hard charging Romine.  Litton winning his second race of the year, he
has been in three finals this year.
