Best prior run: 6.757/205.57, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Holzer Runs 6.771/204.05, Now #13

Best prior run: 7.073/170.69, Was #23
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.690/207.75, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.686/208.46, Was #2
Montecalvo made a very nice pass down the left lane.
Killian's was just the opposite, the car skating around
and making a hard right turn when he shifted into third
gear.
Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.706/207.72, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.681/208.14, Was #1
Right Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 6.684/207.30, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.687/208.36, Was #3
Two nice runs here, Yeoman almost knocking Miller off the
top rung of the ladder.
Left Lane: Rocky Watford Runs 7.600/130.78, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.764/207.21, Was #12
Right Lane: Ed Machacek Runs 6.774/204.94, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.751/206.89, Was #10
Conditions are just about perfect right now, cloud cover
keeping the track from getting slick. But Watford had
problems with traction anyway and slowed.
Left Lane: Wayne Bishop Runs 7.050/198.64, Now #24
Best prior run: 7.101/191.38, Was #24
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 6.785/205.60, Now #14
Best prior run: 7.358/145.52, Was #26

Best prior run: 7.032/201.01, Was #23
Right Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 6.800/204.98, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.749/206.29, Was #9
Walters skated around all the way down the track and came
up short of the field, so Holbrook dodged one bullet here.
Left Lane: Tim Bell Runs 9.984/78.83, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.997/198.52, Was #22
Right Lane: Johnny McLain Runs 6.935/200.44, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.878/203.49, Was #18
Two more bullets - the final pair, both trying to bump
Holbrook to get into the field. Bell's car was extremely
loose and skated toward the centerline, the two cars
getting every close before Bell lifted. Couldn't tell if
McLain lifted, but he came up short and Holbrook survived
to fight again next round.

Results for Elimination 2 |
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2
eliminations in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 35th
annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX:

(W) Jon Yoak (Probe) 0.468 6.712 208.88
(L) Bob Holzer (Firebird) 0.511 6.795 201.34
1:59 PM Here we go again, the Professional racers back for
more. Holzer was all over the lane and Yoak ran away from
him easily to win by a margin of victory = 0.126 seconds
(approximately 37 feet).
(W) Ron Miller (Monte Carlo) 0.494 6.689 209.33
(L) Carl Baker (Thunderbird) 0.458 11.289 76.79
This was almost a side-by-side, fender-rubbing race, both
cars shaking and skating around for the first 200 feet.
But then Miller reined it in and ran away, quick enough to
earn lane choice against Yoak in the semifinals.
(W) Jerry Yeoman (Firebird) 0.481 6.680 209.33
(L) Gene Wilson (Thunderbird) 0.486 9.139 98.39

back up his earlier 210.77 as a new World speed record,
but too slow at the tree to get the win light. Spiess wins
on a holeshot by a margin of victory = 0.012 seconds
(approximately 4 feet), but loses lane choice to Yeoman.

Results for Elimination 3 |
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3
eliminations in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 35th
annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Jon Yoak (Probe) 0.427 6.681 209.20
(L) Ron Miller (Monte Carlo) 0.483 6.684 209.88
4:00 PM Yoak won, most of the winning margin coming from
his big holeshot. The margin of victory = 0.059 seconds
(approximately 18 feet).
(W) Jerry Yeoman (Firebird) 0.473 6.666 209.26
(L) Steve Spiess (Monte Carlo) 0.490 6.697 207.94
Yeoman won by a margin of victory = 0.048 seconds
(approximately 15 feet), then had to dodge Spiess'
airborne car. Spiess' chutes didn't come out and his
brakes finally locked up, the car turning hard left, then
going airborne and hitting the left-hand wall near the top
of the wall. The impact knocked out a big notch in the top
of the wall and it appears the engine ended up outside the
wall, burning. The car ricocheted back across the track,
hitting the right wall before coming to rest. Yeoman,
chutes out, was well back when Spiess crossed in front of
him and drove through the debris to park next to Spiess'
car to help, if needed. Spiess could be seen on TV, moving
around inside the car, and emerged to say he was okay.
Amazing. The entire front of the car broke off at the
firewall when the car hit the wall, the rear part all that
came back on the flatbed, the engine coming back to the
pits on a wrecker hook.
