ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Outlaw at the 35th annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Neal Parker Runs 9.418/88.94, Now #2
Right Lane: Michael Barclay Runs 7.716/110.37, Now #1
6:54 PM We open the Castrol Friday Night of Fire with a pair of big-engined altereds, Parker's '48 Fiat in the left lane and Barclay's in the right, 500-plus cubic inches of blown Hemi engines in each of them. Both went into violent tire shake, Parker's the worst of the two.
Left Lane: Kevin McClain Runs 6.618/195.87, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave Christensen Runs 6.878/204.60, Now #2
Two rear-engined dragsters here, both supercharged. Much better launches here, still battling shake in both lanes.
Left Lane: Todd Goodman No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 6.276/215.86, Now #1
Goodman's car wouldn't fire and they pushed it to the side. Snyder's new Spitzer sports a great paint scheme. The new car goes right down the groove.
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 13.943/52.50, Now #7
Right Lane: Mark McElwee Runs 6.812/149.28, Now #3
Ray shook and shut off. McElwee was on a strong pass, but got out of the groove and darted toward the centerline on the top end and had to lift.
Left Lane: Mike Decker Runs 9.771/78.30, Now #8
Right Lane: Jeff Chatterson Runs 6.604/170.19, Now #2
Decker left hard and then shook. Chatterson's Ford was a better match to the track this round, straight down the groove.
Right Lane: Karen Haddock No Time, Now #11
Karen debuted her new Pro Outlaw car on a solo pass, for safety. The car shook, the RPMs went up, and then the burst panel let go in a flash of flame. She rolled through too slowly to get an elapsed time.
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 6.189/202.64, Now #1
Laurie paid a price for the number one spot, nipping several pistons around the 1,000-foot marker, the car losing momentum and falling off the speed she usually runs.
Left Lane: Grant Flowers No Time, Now #13
Flowers was on a licensing pass and turned hard left on the launch with his big-engined altered.

Results for Qualifying 2

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Outlaw at the 35th annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dave Christensen Runs 6.581/209.23, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.878/204.60, Was #6
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 7.095/192.06, Now #7
Best prior run: 13.943/52.50, Was #10
10:33 AM We're starting the Professional qualifying session 90 minutes early to beat approaching weather. But Ray negated some of that, his car trailing a spray of oil all the way down the track.
Left Lane: Michael Barclay Runs 6.334/213.47, Now #3
Best prior run: 7.716/110.37, Was #8
Right Lane: Neal Parker Runs 6.481/220.55, Now #4
Best prior run: 9.418/88.94, Was #9
11:00 AM Okay, now it's a half-hour later and the second pair fires. The oildown was wide and long, across the entire right lane, from about 100 feet through the lights. Once again the two altereds run side-by-side. Parker's Fiat was all over the lane and he pedaled it at least three times - and still ran a good time and speed!
Left Lane: Jeff Chatterson Runs 6.480/205.63, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.604/170.19, Was #6
Right Lane: Karen Haddock Runs 7.209/117.72, Now #10
                                  No Prior Run
Haddock had problems on the debut run with her new dragster yesterday and bypassed the scales, so the run was DQ'ed. She tried hard to get a full pass in here, but the car was all over the lane, a real hand full, and she lost it near the finish line, the car fishtailing wider and wider, then rolling on its side and sliding nose-first into the right-hand wall. The car swapped ends and then started barrel-rolling down the left lane, shedding body panels and parts. After a few anxious moments we got the good news, Karen is okay - but her new car is about used up.
Left Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 6.275/218.44, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.276/215.86, Was #2
Right Lane: Mike Decker Runs 17.700/36.22, Now #11
Best prior run: 9.771/78.30, Was #11
11:22 AM Moving right along...Nice run by Snyder to improve by just 0.001 seconds. Decker launched, shook, started to "basketball," and gave it up, coasting through.
Left Lane: Mark McElwee Runs 6.256/215.37, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.812/149.28, Was #8
Right Lane: Charlie Gambino Runs 6.685/180.48, Now #9
                                  No Prior Run
Something large came off Gambino's car, at first everyone though it was the wing, but it turned out to be a side panel. Nice, smooth run by McElwee.
Right Lane: Todd Goodman Runs 7.635/126.60, Now #12
                                  No Prior Run
Goodman went into a big wheelie and had to get way out of the throttle to get the front end down.
Right Lane: Kevin McClain Runs 6.575/192.91, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.618/195.87, Was #8
McClain took the long route to the finish line, his car drifting way to the left before McClain steered it back to the middle.
Right Lane: Grant Flowers Runs 7.817/163.43, Now #13
                                  No Prior Run
Flowers calls his yellow altered "Voodooist." Yesterday it had a hex on it, bouncing severely on the launch. Today it left very softly, laboring a;ll the way down the strip.

Results for Elimination 1

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Outlaw at the 35th annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Mark McElwee (Spitzer-Chevy) 0.442 6.132 218.72
 (L) Kevin McClain (Dragster-Chevy) 0.617 (Broke)
11:59 AM The pre-race ceremonies were brief and professional eliminations open right on schedule (well, on the rain-delayed schedule). McClain broke on the launch, giving McElwee a free pass to the semifinals.
 (W) Jeff Chatterson (Gaddy-Ford) 0.505 6.324 213.60
 (L) Michael Barclay (Victory-Dodge) 0.505 9.481 85.47
Barclay's altered turned hard left on the launch, crossed the centerline and came back before the 330-foot marker, then shed a body panel before he shut it down. Chatterson advances in an upset.
 (W) Laurie Cannister (Nicorette/Nicoderm Spitzer0.487 6.373 218.27
 (L) Dave Christensen (Spitzer-Chevy) 0.495 8.977 91.10
Cannister's car veered way left and she had to lift to steer it back. Christensen had a freebie going for him, then there was a loud POP from the blower and his car slowed. Laurie loses lane choice to Chatterson in round two.
 (W) Mick Snyder (Snyder Racing Spitzer-Chevy) 0.506 6.100 225.41
 (L) Neal Parker ('48Fiat) 0.456 12.236 80.42
Parker's '48 Fiat altered turned violent on the launch, turning left and bouncing across the centerline, almost overturning. Snyder runs low ET of the round to earn lane choice against McElwee in the semifinals.

Results for Elimination 2

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Pro Outlaw at the 35th annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Laurie Cannister (Nicorette/Nicoderm Spitzer0.481 6.080 222.58
 (L) Jeff Chatterson (Gaddy-Ford) 0.497 6.249 217.28
3:55 PM Chatterson got a bit sideways on the launch and it probably didn't matter, Cannister's dragster in fine form today.
 (W) Mick Snyder (Snyder Racing Spitzer-Chevy) 0.537 6.077 226.92
 (L) Mark McElwee (Spitzer-Chevy) 0.000(R) (Broke)
As McElwee brought the RPMs up for the launch, there was a POP from the blower and the burst panel opened. Again, it probably didn't matter, Snyder with an even better pass than Cannister's, earning lane choice for their final round meeting.

Results for Final Round

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 3 eliminations in Pro Outlaw at the 35th annual Holley Spring Nationals Presented by Castrol GTX:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Laurie Cannister (Nicorette/Nicoderm Spitzer0.508 6.038 222.55
 (L) Mick Snyder (Snyder Racing Spitzer-Chevy) 0.440 7.243 150.01
5:48 PM Here we go with Professional final round eliminations - Sportsman eliminations are only in the second round, so we'll be here for quite a while longer this evening. Snyder's new Spitzer sports an F-1-style nose, with the "slanty part" on the bottom and a low-mounted wing, along with swoopy end plates on the rear wing. Don't know if it works any better, but it's neat-looking! However, aerodynamics don't help with tire shake, and Snyder had plenty of that, leaving caterpillar tracks on the launch pad. Congratulations to the Cannister team for a great outing.
