Results for Qualifying 1
BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Sunoco Pro
Stock at the 9th annual Expressautoparts.com President's Cup Nationals listing
lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 16.622/42.39, Now #2
Right Lane: Wayne Bishop Runs 8.007/192.60, Now #1
2:12 PM Gahm's engine started popping and crackling when he tried to launch.
Bishop launched, went toward the centerline, backpedlaed, then continued.
Left Lane: John Konigshofer Runs 10.004/116.93, Now #3
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.678/209.07, Now #1
These two made their burnouts, then had to shut off while Gahm's crippled car
was removed from the top end. Konigshofer's car spun the tire shard, hit the rev
limiter, then slowed. Nice pass by Wilson, the first real run we've seen so
far.
Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.687/209.59, Now #2
Right Lane: Wally Stroupe Runs 6.762/206.45, Now #3
Everyone expects Lee to take a shot at the Pro Stock records this weekend,
the track just 80 feet above sea level and the highs predicted to be around 70
degrees all three days of the event.
Left Lane: Tim Bell Runs 22.992/31.15, Now #8
Right Lane: Angelo Alesci Runs 6.762/206.76, Now #3
Same story, lots of tire spin in the left lane, followed by engine problems,
Bell coasting to a stop just past the finish line. Nice pass by Alesci.
Left Lane: Harold Robinson Runs 21.599/43.62, Now #8
Right Lane: David Jenkins No Time, Now #10
kine broke before the run. Robinson spun the tires and coasted through.
Left Lane: Bob Holzer Runs 6.799/201.19, Now #6
Right Lane: Jon Yoak Runs 6.691/210.18, Now #3
Yoak is tied with John Montecalvo for the points lead. Holzer made a good
launch, showing that the problems in the left lane weren't due to the lane. His car
started smoking on the top end and the car nosed over sharply.
Left Lane: Terry Walters Runs 6.908/201.85, Now #8
Right Lane: Floyd Cheek Runs 6.901/202.73, Now #7
Both runs looked better than the numbers that came up, both cars slowing on
the top end of the run.
Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.722/208.68, Now #4
Right Lane: Jason Collins Runs 11.975/67.43, Now #12
Collins' car was shaking and skating around, so he shut it down. Rice made a
1,500-foot pass to get through the 1,320.
Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.708/209.33, Now #4
Right Lane: Johnny McLain Runs 12.238/81.96, Now #14
Now it's the right lane with problems, McLain up on the wheelie bars and
shaking the tires. Nice opening pass for Spiess, clean and straight.
Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.661/210.47, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 6.727/207.11, Now #7
Finally a nice side-by-side pair of runs, Miller pulling away on the top
end.
Left Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 6.769/207.94, Now #10
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 9.225/111.08, Now #15
Montecalvo launched with the wheels up, the rear of his car dancing around,
then he shut it down. Nice pass by Holbrook after an early excursion over toward
the wall.
Left Lane: Carl Baker Runs 7.129/200.98, Now #14
Right Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 11.554/74.85, Now #18
Baker's car went every way but straight on the launch, forst toward the
centerline and then the wall before he reined it in and cruised through. Yeoman
launched, shook, and gave it up.
Left Lane: Tony Fox Runs 9.594/94.16, Now #18
Right Lane: Ed Machacek Runs 6.705/208.55, Now #5
Fox's Mustang went into a "tank-slapper" and he had to give it up to keep
from losing control. Machacek made a nice opening pass to close out a round of
haves and have-nots.

Results for Qualifying 2
BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Sunoco Pro
Stock at the 9th annual Expressautoparts.com President's Cup Nationals listing
lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following
run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Williford Runs 7.219/150.48, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tony Fox Runs 10.398/88.89, Now #18
Best prior run: 9.594/94.16, Was #17
1:29 PM Fox's '00 Mustang is so new it's still just basic blue, with a few
decals, but no major signage. The car launches, gets sideways, fishtails a couple
times, then slows. Couldn't see what happened to Williford on the top end, but he
put the chute out around 1,000 feet.
Left Lane: Ed Machacek No Time, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.705/208.55, Was #5
Right Lane: Carl Baker Runs 6.830/206.80, Now #12
Best prior run: 7.129/200.98, Was #14
Machacek's car veered right on the launch and crossed the center stripe,
DQ'ing the run. Baker continues to struggle, at least making a full pass this time
around.
Left Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 6.709/208.01, Now #7
Best prior run: 11.554/74.85, Was #20
Right Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 6.710/207.94, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.769/207.94, Was #11
Two nice runs here to shake the field up once again - this round should
completely reshuffle the field.
Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.683/208.49, Now #4
Best prior run: 9.225/111.08, Was #18
Right Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.676/208.75, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.722/208.68, Was #9
Two more even better runs, more reshuffling.
Left Lane: Jon Yoak Runs 6.664/210.73, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.691/210.18, Was #6
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 14.971/66.28, Now #22
Best prior run: 16.622/42.39, Was #22
Yoak lays down a huge run here, just 0.06 seconds off the ET record and 0.04
mph off the speed record. Gahm shook very hard, the left rear tire chattering
visibly.
Left Lane: Jason Collins No Time, Now #25
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.643/209.98, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.687/209.59, Was #6
Missed Collins' numbers when Lee's chute failed to come out after a great
run. Lee managed to get the car slowed and made the turn on the top end okay.
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.678/209.52, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.678/209.07, Was #5
Right Lane: Harold Robinson Runs 7.047/197.17, Now #17
No Prior Run
Wilson duplicates his first run to the thousandth of a second.
Left Lane: Wayne Bishop Runs 6.892/203.19, Now #15
Best prior run: 8.007/192.60, Was #19
Right Lane: Tim Bell No Time, Now #24
Best prior run: 22.992/31.15, Was #24
Bell's engine popped and crackled on the launch, then went silent. Bishop
squeaked into the field, but that time won't hold up under these conditions.
Left Lane: Angelo Alesci Runs 15.571/67.29, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.762/206.76, Was #12
Right Lane: John Konigshofer Runs 8.016/135.54, Now #20
Best prior run: 10.004/116.93, Was #21
This almost got very messy, Alesci's car veering right and almost crossing
the centerline while Konigshofer's veered left and also almost crossed the line
too. Both managed to avoid the meeting.
Left Lane: Floyd Cheek Runs 6.686/207.98, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.901/202.73, Was #16
Right Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.651/210.11, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.661/210.47, Was #2
The Cougar makes its best run of the year and Miller improves his hold on
second place.

Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.758/207.69, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.708/209.33, Was #9
Spiess' car was a bit loose on the first half of the run.
Left Lane: David Jenkins Runs 6.798/204.54, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry Walters Runs 6.852/202.67, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.908/201.85, Was #17
Jenkins squeaks into the field, putting Carl Baker on the bubble at
6.830.
Left Lane: Johnny McLain Runs 6.932/200.98, Now #19
Best prior run: 12.238/81.96, Was #23
No joy for the Mopar camp, McLain about a tenth short of the field.
Left Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 6.699/207.30, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.727/207.11, Was #12
Last car of the session. Nabors moves to the top half of the field with a
smooth pass.
