Nitro Harley at the 23rd annual Mopar Parts World Nationals presented by Ethanol

Left Lane: Jack Romine Runs 7.616/183.49, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim McClure No Time, Now #2
2:08 PM McClure broke on the burnout. Romine went down the middle of the
lane, but well off the racing pace.
Left Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 10.989/83.23, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 7.131/147.65, Now #1
Vancil's engine labored and his front wheel banged down a few feet off the
starting line. Romine looked to be on a good pass, but slowed dramatically on the
top end.
Left Lane: Jay Turner Runs 7.093/196.39, Now #1
Right Lane: Allen Peterson Runs 8.132/183.52, Now #4
Peterson was struggling for control, the bike a real handful, moving toward
the centerline and refusing to come back. Turner's run looked pretty good, but
the bike slowed on the top end.
Left Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 7.308/197.68, Now #4
Right Lane: Ray Price Runs 6.948/204.57, Now #1
Mancuso lost traction, spinning the rear tire hard, and had to back off the
throttle a couple times to regain traction. Nice pass by Price, the senior
citizen taking over the top spot on the ladder.
Left Lane: Bill Furr Runs 8.014/115.46, Now #6
Right Lane: Bob Spina No Time, Now #10
Spina broke the chain on the launch. Good pass by Furr to about half track,
then his engine went sour.
Right Lane: Mark Conner Runs 7.412/145.33, Now #5
Conner's engine never did come up to full RPM, laboring down the
groove.

2:21 PM The Harley rockets take their turn on the Norwalk launch pad.
Peterson launched hard, but the front wheel came down about 300 feet out. Furr
was a bit slower off the line, but kept both cylinders lit all the way through
for a good run.

Mancuso took advantage of today's better conditions to take the #1 spot away
from Furr, who only held it for about a minute. Conner broke in the water.

McCLure fought with his bike all the way down the strip, the front wheel
bobbing up and down several times. Romine's run looked smooth, but was off the
pace and McClure went by like he was standing still.

Nice side-by-side runs here, two full passes to bump Jack Romine and put

Romine is on the bump and Stordeur is not in the show. Stordeur launches
hard and did not set the front tire down until almost the 1000 foot mark.
Stordeur goes from the outside to the number one spot. He has a leg up on a new
World record, and that bumped Romine.

Vancil had engine problems right off the starting line and he coasted on
through. Conner labored on through the 1320 and will not make the show.

Furr made a good looking pass and got into the top half of the show. Price
with no help here.

Mancuso was on and off the throttle right off the starting line. Spina
finally with a good pass, but only good enough for the number eight spot. That
bumped out Peterson.

Turner is not in the show and the point leader broke a chain on the launch,
so he will go home. The crew man fished the broken chain off the sprocket and
threw it across the launch pad in disgust. McClure with no help here.

A couple of nonqualified bikes here. Romine labors all the way through the
quarter mile and will not make the show. Peterson the hog farmer from Iowa had to
wrestle this hog off the centerline, but did it. Peterson jumped from the outside
of the show into the number three spot.

3:28 PM Stordeur is racing with his foot in a walking cast after breaking
it last night "in a moment of passion." The extra weight didn't bother him a bit,
making a very nice run to win easily, the margin of victory = 0.233 seconds
(approximately 69 feet).

This was an even race to half track, then Price's front wheel came down and
Furr pulled ahead to win by a margin of victory = 0.475 seconds (more than 100
feet). Furr loses lane choice to Stordeur.

(L) Mike Romine (Chromatic Inc '00 Harley) 0.499 6.665 204.26
Great drag race! Romine got a slight edge off the starting line and then
McClure reeled him in and went by at the finish line to win by a margin of victory
= 0.001 seconds (approximately 4 inches).

Both bikes spun the rear tire on the launch, Mancuso recovering first to go
on for the win, both riders struggling all the way down the track. Mancuso loses
lane choice to McClure.

Furr smoked the big rear slick as soon as he hit throttle and could only
watch as Stordeur blast down the 1320 with a great looking pass.

Mancuso is out of the gate first , but McClure chases him down to take the
win light. McClure will have lane choice in the final against Stordeur.

Both bikes leave with the front wheel about a foot in the air. McClure had
the starting line advantage, but Stordeur with a great looking pass to take home
the win. Stordeur wins with the broken foot and all.
