Saturday
Results for Qualifying 1
STANTON, Mich. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 in Show Cars at the 19th
annual CARQUEST Northern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top
speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Bob Wetzel Runs 12.559/130.58, Now #1
Right Lane: Ken Nelson Runs 12.709/102.48, Now #2
New to the exhibition vehicles here is Wetzel's twin-Cadillac dragster,
looking like a throwback to the sixties (or even earlier). He does a full-track
burnout, backs up at high speed, and then lets Ken Nelson's "Cool Bus" outrun him
on a tire-smoking pass.
Left Lane: Toby Ehrmintraut Runs 5.208/300.20, Now #1
Right Lane: Daniel Sullivan Runs 9.173/166.72, Now #2
Good pass by Ehrmintraut in the "Odyssey" jet, but Sullivan's "Chicago Rush"
has an afterburner problem and runs at severely reduced power.

11:13 PM Now it's "Night of Fire" time. Wetzel's twin-Cadillac dragster
versus Trevino's wheelstanding S-10 pickup. The dragster lost power at 300 feet,
but Trevino made a nice run, possibly his quickest ever at a big speed.
Left Lane: Toby Ermintraut Runs 5.202/0.00, Now #1
No Prior Run
Ermintraut ran as an intro for the fireworks show. No speed was
recorded.
