EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the
5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time,
top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 7.214/120.26, Now #2
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.900/276.52, Now #1
1:44 PM Bailey shook hard, pedaled, then lost traction violently. Todd
also spun the tires briefly, but drove out of it, shutting off well before the
finish line.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.740/310.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 6.385/142.24, Now #3
Millican makes another good run, right down the groove with no tire smoke.
Head lost traction 200 feet out, pedaled, lost traction again, then gave it
up.
Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 5.307/190.73, Now #3
Right Lane: Paul Romine Runs 7.455/110.42, Now #6
Romine's car launched with the wheels up - and then they went up a bit
higher, then a bit higher, and he had to give it up or risk a blowover. Litton
was on a good run to half track, started to haze the tires. then the header flames
went out - couldn't see why, maybe the tires were shaking harder than it looked
from way back here.

EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the
5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed
time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed
time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Paul Romine Runs 11.478/86.96, Now #7
Best prior run: 7.455/110.42, Was #6
Right Lane: Wayne Bailey Runs 6.626/120.21, Now #5
No Prior Run
2:07 PM Romine went up in smoke immediately. Bailey shut it down near half
track, no reason evident from here.
Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.721/309.42, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.385/142.24, Was #4
Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.840/310.41, Now #3
Best prior run: 5.307/190.73, Was #3
Litton had a very good run going to just past half track yesterday and then
the car shut down, still haven't heard what happened. This time he ran it all the
way through, a nice pass, but he got to the finish line second beside Head's great
pass to take over the top spot on the ladder.
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 12.071/77.70, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.900/276.52, Was #4
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.715/310.20, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.740/310.84, Was #2
Head just knocked Millican off the top rung of the ladder. So Millican came
back and reset both ends of the World record at 4.715 and 310.84. Todd lost
traction almost immediately.

Results for Qualifying 3
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel
at the 5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed
time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed
time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Louie Allison Runs 20.881/74.52, Now #8
No Prior Run
8:39 PM After the team worked to rebuild Jack Ostrander's car after the
crash at Norwalk, including borrowing a wing from Don Prudhomme, Allison took the
tree and idled down the track to make sure he didn't oil the track and lose the
run on the "black flag" rule.
Left Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 4.763/291.55, Now #3
Best prior run: 7.214/120.26, Was #6
Right Lane: J.R. Todd No Time, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.900/276.52, Was #4
Todd's car was shut off after the burnout with a mechanical problem in the
front steering assembly. Bailey made a nice run to move to the top half of the
field.
Left Lane: Wayne Bailey Runs 5.286/193.74, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.626/120.21, Was #6
Right Lane: Paul Romine Runs 4.825/304.05, Now #4
Best prior run: 7.455/110.42, Was #7
Bailey left hard but the header flames went out at half track. Romine kept
the candles lit all the way through the lights to move into the top half of the
field, barely.
Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.842/308.57, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.840/310.41, Was #5
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.744/304.25, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.721/309.42, Was #2
Jim Head's big problem between rounds? Where to get some lobsters to cook
up for dinner. What, him worry? Litton needed to move into the top half of the
field in order to have lane choice Sunday. Nice side-by-side show for the crowd,
the header flames tall and bright from both cars all the way through the lights,
but Litton failed to improve and won't have lane choice when he faces Romine in
the first round tomorrow.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 15.667/72.70, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.715/310.20, Was #1
Before this round Millican said they would probably push the limits this
session, solidly first with a free run to experiment with. He didn't go two feet
before the tires broke loose, spinning hard.

Results for Elimination Rnd 1
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel
at the 5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster) 0.472 4.785 313.37
(L) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Racing Dragster) 0.483 11.537 85.20
1:13 PM The top three in points are on the same side of the ladder and two of
them are paired off right here. After qualifying Romine led Litton by 47 points.
Romine lost traction immediately, the front wheels in the air and the rear tires
enveloped in white tire smoke, while Litton made a great lap, resetting the IHRA
World speed record and narrowing the margin to just 17 points.
(W) Jim Bailey (Snap-On Racing Dragster) 0.520 4.860 291.70
(L) J.R. Todd (UnitedExpressline Dragster) 0.508 4.905 300.53
What a drag race! Todd got a small holeshot and Bailey had to come from
behind to win by a margin of victory = 0.033 seconds (approximately 15 feet).
That's Todd's first-ever 300 mph speed.
(W) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.526 4.767 309.63
(L) Wayne Bailey (Dragster) 0.490 4.954 293.73
Bailey left first, but Head had him covered by half track and ran away with
low ET of the round so far to win by a margin of victory = 0.151 seconds
(approximately 65 feet). Head also earned lane choice against Jim Bailey in the
semifinals.
(W) Clay Millican (eAuto.com Dragster) 0.521 5.177 210.70
(L) Louie Allison (Vista Foods Dragster) 0.518 6.218 142.28
Millican dodged a bullet here, Allison's just-reassembled car with a shorter
fuse than Millican's, running out of steam at half track while Millican's engine
went away at 1,000 feet. Millican advances with a very important meeting with Bruce
Litton in the semifinals, Litton with lane choice. Millican trails Litton by just
16 points after qualifying. If Litton wins, he takes the points lead. If Millican
wins and wins the event, he takes the points lead.

Results for Elimination Rnd 2
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top Fuel
at the 5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Clay Millican (eAuto.com Dragster) 0.501 4.683 316.97
(L) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster) 0.486 4.790 313.15
4:03 PM This is very simple - if Litton wins he takes the points lead. If
Millican wins, he can take the points lead by winning the event. Good drag race,
Litton away first and Millican chasing him down, running a huge speed on the top
end to win by a Margin of victory = 0.092 seconds (approximately 42 feet). And he
resets the IHRA World ET record as well, with a pending World speed record.
(W) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.512 4.738 304.60
(L) Jim Bailey (Snap-On Racing Dragster) 0.528 10.490 79.17
Bailey lost traction early in the run and was on fire when he crossed the
finish line, but the PTS crew was there and knocked the fire down quickly. Head
won easily, but Millican will have lane choice in the finals.
Sunday
Results for Final Round
EPPING, N.H. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 3 eliminations in Top
Fuel at the 5th annual Amalie Oil Northern Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.516 4.753 306.74
(L) Clay Millican (eAuto.com Dragster) 0.513 4.776 298.73 6:01 PM The points lead was riding on this run, but Jim Head crashed
Millican's party and the fans got a great drag race, an almost-even start and a
close finish, the margin of victory = 0.020 seconds (approximately 9 feet).
Unofficially that moves Millican into second in the points, between Litton and
points leader Romine, with about one round difference between first and third -
about as close to a three-way tie as you can get.
