Results for Qualifying 1
LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at
the 12th annual CARQUEST Empire Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time,
top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.211/242.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Bobby Lagana No Time, Now #2
3:18 PM Lagana (Senior) popped a fuel line loose on the burnout, sending a
geyser of fuel in the air before he could shut it off. Todd made a good pass,
clean and straight, with what looked like a planned early shutoff, around the
1,000-foot marker.
Left Lane: Louie Allison Runs 5.404/209.01, Now #2
Right Lane: Don Reed Runs 11.790/83.08, Now #3
Reed's car spun the tires, sputtered, then coasted through. Allison's
engine was laboring on the top end and he shut it down way before the finish
line.
Left Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 6.601/137.76, Now #4
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.983/280.02, Now #1
Bailey smoked the tires and tried to pedal out of it, without success. Head
appeared to make a clean pass, but may have pedaled it too (hard to tell through
Bailey's tire smoke).
Left Lane: Paul Romine Runs 5.010/247.93, Now #2
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 8.773/83.08, Now #6
Both cars left hard, but both had problems. Millican lost traction in a
cloud of tire smoke after 200 feet. he pedaled, but could not get them hooked
back up again. Couldn't see what Romine's problem was, but the header flames went
out as he neared the 1,000-foot marker.
Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 5.812/159.20, Now #5
Litton's home is Indianapolis, but he shows Oneida, TN as his "home" because
that's where he was born. He left hard, started spinning the tires before the
half-track markers, and shut it down shortly after.

Results for Qualifying 2
LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at
the 12th annual CARQUEST Empire Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed
time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed
time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Bobby Lagana Runs 5.859/219.94, Now #7
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Roger Dean Runs 5.491/247.93, Now #5
No Prior Run
1:58 PM These were pretty much full passes by both cars.
Left Lane: Don Reed Runs 5.548/200.98, Now #6
Best prior run: 11.790/83.08, Was #10
Right Lane: Jim Bailey Runs 7.073/119.25, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.601/137.76, Was #8
Reed is running the twin-cam McGee engine. He went out to half track and
then shut it down. Bailey smoked the tires early in the session, pedaled, smoked
them again, then gave it up.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.897/300.00, Now #1
Best prior run: 8.773/83.08, Was #10
Right Lane: Louie Allison Runs 5.046/291.35, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.404/209.01, Was #4
Two good runs here, Millican moving to the top spot and Allison with a full
pass.
Left Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.837/292.58, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.812/159.20, Was #8
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 11.007/80.49, Now #6
Best prior run: 5.211/242.84, Was #5
Mentor versus student. Todd's partial run yesterday was not a planned early
shutoff, it was the result of a broken camshaft at half track. Here he started to
spin the tires and shut it down quickly. Meanwhile Litton took the top spot away
from Millican on a solid run, right down the groove.
Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.837/295.56, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.983/280.02, Was #3
Right Lane: Paul Romine Runs 4.918/296.15, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.010/247.93, Was #4
Nice side-by-side show here, Head getting the win light and taking the top
spot away from Litton with an identical elapsed time and a 3 mph better
speed.

Results for Elimination Round 1
LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top
Fuel at the 12th annual CARQUEST Empire Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Racing Dragster) 0.462 5.085 284.72
(L) Louie Allison (Vista Foods Dragster) 0.532 5.509 186.79
1:18 PM This was a close drag race to about the 1,000-foot mark, then the
header flames went out on Allison's mount and Romine pulled away for an easy
win
(W) Clay Millican (stealthsponsor.com Dragster) 0.439 4.945 296.63
(L) J.R. Todd (Dragster) 0.501 4.968 295.27
This was a good drag race, Millican's reaction time advantage making up most
of the difference, the margin of victory = 0.085 seconds (approximately 37 feet).
The incremental times for the two cars were virtually identical all the way down
the track. That's a career-best elapsed time for young Todd.
(W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster) 0.511 4.910 280.72
(L) Bobby Lagana (Dragster) 0.571 5.663 213.11
Nice pass by Litton against a struggling alternate, Lagana (Senior), in for
Roger Dean, with engine problems around half track. Litton will face Millican in
round two and will have lane choice.
(W) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.482 4.894 291.54
(L) Jim Bailey (Snap-On Racing Dragster) 0.501 8.605 93.80
Head ended up facing Bailey when Don Reed was unable to make the call. He
hoped to gain some ground against Bailey in the points at this race and this gave
Bailey a chance to stop Head, but it was not to be, Bailey up in smoke after 100
feet or so. Head will have lane choice against Romine in round two.
Sunday
Results for Elimination Round 2
LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top
Fuel at the 12th annual CARQUEST Empire Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster) 0.497 4.823 300.30
(L) Clay Millican (stealthsponsor.com Dragster) 0.513 4.816 303.64
6:29 PM Two championship contenders face off here, #2 and #3 in the points.
And the race was all you could ask for, Litton with a holeshot win over the rookie
driver. Both runs were straight and clean, with no tire smoke anywhere in either
lane.
(W) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Racing Dragster) 0.472 5.581 257.21
(L) Jim Head (Big Daddy's BBQ Dragster) 0.225(R) 9.245 89.17
This was a tactical battle, neither driver wanting to go in first. Finally
Head went in first, then left way too early. Romine smoked the tires after 100
feet, and apparently didn't know he'd won because he pedaled and regained
traction. But the pedal job was in vain, he lost lane choice to Litton
anyway.
Sunday
Results for Final Round
LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 3 eliminations
in Top Fuel at the 12th annual CARQUEST Empire Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster) 0.439 4.842 257.80
(L) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Racing Dragster) 0.192(R) 9.840 85.17
8:43 PM This was over before it started, Romine very early, the event
sponsors losing their last shot at having one of their cars win the event. Romine
shut off as soon as he saw the red light. Litton ran it to the 1,000-foot marker,
then shut it off, his finish line speed about the same as his half-track
speed.
