GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1
qualifying in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Inaugural
Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol
listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and
position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jason Collins Runs 6.700/207.46, Now #1
Right Lane: Anthony Paone Runs 11.144/79.43, Now #2
12:40 PM Paone's car shook and danced, so he gave it up.
Clean, straight run for Collins, his first appearance on
the tour.
Left Lane: John Konigshofer Runs 6.690/207.03, Now #1
Right Lane: David Jenkins Runs 6.811/201.88, Now #3
Konigshofer's car made a right turn on the launch and he
drove through it smoothly for a good run.
Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.691/206.65, Now #2
Right Lane: Jon Yoak Runs 6.774/206.04, Now #4
Two clean passes.
Left Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 7.072/200.49, Now #7
Right Lane: Chuck Demory Runs 6.915/198.15, Now #6
Both cars were slow off the starting line, lots of black
smoke from Holbrook's Cutlass.
Left Lane: Carl Baker Runs 6.702/205.43, Now #4
Right Lane: Bob Holzer Runs 6.802/203.80, Now #6
Left Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 6.793/204.03, Now #6
Right Lane: Tim Bell Runs 7.056/192.51, Now #10
Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.826/196.80, Now #9
Right Lane: Angelo Alesci Runs 27.889/22.32, Now #14
This is Alesci's first national event outing this year. He
launched and then the car nosed over before the 60-foot
marker. Miller left hard, the left rear tire started
spinning, and the car veered to the left, forcing him to
backpedal to recover.
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.740/205.99, Now #6
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.704/207.03, Now #5
There was a short break while the PTS crew got Alesci's
stalled car off the top of the track. He coasted to a stop
just past the finish line.
Spiess' car was seriously sideways and he never lifted.
Left Lane: Rocky Watford Runs 7.416/150.77, Now #15
Right Lane: Wally Stroupe Runs 13.244/63.49, Now #17
More wild stuff, Stroupe's car making an immediate left
turn on the launch and Watford's car seriously out of
shape around half track - he lifted before it got away
from him.
Left Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 6.688/207.18, Now #1
Right Lane: Floyd Cheek Runs 6.733/205.85, Now #7
Nice pass by Yeoman to take over the top spot - but he
ended up in the sand trap, just off the end of the
pavement.
John Montecalvo was ready to run in the right lane and his
car got hot, so he was pushed back to cool off.
Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 8.412/108.32, Now #19
Lee's first pass in his new '00 Mustang wasn't a good one,
the car very loose on the launch and all over the lane
before he shut it down.
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.686/207.18, Now #1
After his quick cooldown, Montecalvo took over the top
spot to close the session.

Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.657/208.28, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.686/207.18, Was #9
Lee's time earlier today would have put him in the field,
but the car was light at the scales. He gets back in here,

on a good run of his own.
That bumps Demory - now Wally Stroupe is on the bubble at
