GRAND BEND, Ont. - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 1
qualifying in Pro Outlaw at the Inaugural Mopar Parts
Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane,
driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in
order following run:
Left Lane: Jim Lamb Runs 6.767/170.16, Now #1
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 7.407/129.38, Now #2
12:26 AM Almost on schedule, here come the first of the
Professional categories for their first shot at the Grand
Bend Motorplex racing surface.
Lamb's car was backfiring, but it was Ray's car that
started trailing black smoke and then there was a flash
fire atop the engine - but no oil on the track.
Left Lane: Chris McClellan Runs 6.987/171.88, Now #2
Right Lane: Todd Avery No Time, Now #4
Avery left before the tree. McClellan fired the
wild-looking altered down the left lane on a good first
pass, but slowed on the top end.
Left Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 6.160/222.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Bandish Runs 6.214/222.44, Now #2
Laurie's car shook in this repeat of the Darlington final
round and that was enough for Bandish to get to the finish
line first - but this is only qualifying.
Left Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 6.139/220.85, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Decker Runs 6.183/216.08, Now #3
Snyder is graduating this weekend - with a 3.85 grade
point average! He'll miss the ceremony to race here - and
he celebrates with a #1 spot on the ladder with a fine
run.
Left Lane: Jeff Chatterson No Time, Now #10
Right Lane: Ed Lyons Runs 15.624/47.08, Now #8
Chatterson had problems getting the car out of the staging
lanes, the engine not firing when his turn came, so Lyons
ran solo. Lyons chattered the tires and danced all over
the launch pad before giving it up.
Left Lane: Mark McElwee Runs 6.450/218.34, Now #5
McElwee is debuting a brand-new car here, a Y2K Spitzer.
The chassis looked fine, but the engine trailed smoke from
half-track on.
