| Background |
Mike Comellas cousin, longtime
racer, Joe, sparked his interest in
Funny Car racing over a year ago. A
fan of speed and horsepower of any kind,
the 39-year-old made the choice to purchase
a car from now crew chief, Ken Juszczyk.
After obtaining his Funny Car license
in August of 2001, Mike Comella has
managed to get a pretty good grip
on the driving skills needed to be
successful in competition.
A former mud racer, he managed to
attend three IHRA events in 2001,
and achieved his best run to-date
at Budds Creek. Comella and crew embarked
on the 2002 season with one goal in
mind: to finish in the top 5 of the
national standings. The rookie driver
has taken the class by storm, achieving
a number of semi-final finishes and
the first final round appearance of
his young career.
In the midst of the points battle,
Mike Comella is having the time of
his life, while earning some much
deserved recognition for his hardworking
and self-funded race operation.
