Shelly & Brian Howard Killed In Testing Accident
Shelly Howard, of Tulsa, Okla., was killed in a testing accident at Tulsa Raceway Park Saturday evening. The car experienced a blowover along with a stuck open throttle. The car came to rest facing the starting line and hit the tow vehicle on the starting line at high speed. Her son Brian was in the vehicle and died of injuries as well.
Shelly, a registered nurse, started racing in 1978 and was a two-time NHRA Division 4 Champion in 2001 and 2003. She won three national events, eight divisional races and the prestigous Jegs Sportsman All-Star event last year. She won the initial Division 4 event in Houston earlier this year.
Shelly and Brian are survived by husband/father Dr. Paul Howard and daughter/sisters Tracy and Jennifer. Memorial Services for Shelly and Brian Howard have been set for 10 a.m.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers donations be made to Racers For Christ in memory of Shelly and Special Olympics in memory of Brian.
