Petersburg,
VA - Beautiful weather at Virginia Motorsports Park has brought out
several more cars to the CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open. Slight winds and
mildly cold weather will not keep a steady stream of testers flowing
through the gate.
Under similar weather conditions yesterday, Chris Holbrook in the McAmis
built 2001 Mustang ran a 6.68/209.76, in the first run. The second test
run of the day Holbrook brought out a consistent 6.69/207.5. Carl Moyer's
first test of the day in the Fulton powered 57' Chevy Bel-Air, pulled out
a sixty-foot time of 1.006.
The new additions to the track this morning include Joel Collins’
Ride-A-Long Top Dragsters. The dual cockpit dragsters will be at the
Virginia Motorsports Park for the rest of the weekend. The first run in
the Ride-A-Long dragster with a passenger produced a 5.49/124.58.
Shortly after 12:00 PM today, Johnny Rocca's ‘49 Mercury tested with a
6.63/177.30 after lifting early. Driver Paul Athey commented that the
track hooked up good for him.
At 1:35pm, Steve Cossis took his first test run down the track, running
full throttle nearly 1000 feet into the run. He was working on his
eighth-mile passes and found a decent baseline on his first one.
The
most successful run of the day came from Mike Castellana. The Western Beef
'57 Chevy carried the front wheels and lifted after an eighth-mile
attempt. He rolled the beams on the starting line, but made up for it with
a 4.203/176.72 lap.
Several other new arrivals at the track, including blower Pro Modified Alan
Pittman, John Vouros in the CompetitonPlus.com entry and Terry McMillen in
the Mitel Funny Car arrived early in the morning.
