Maryland International Raceway Team 1 wins IHRA Junior Dragster Team Finals

Sunday, 14 July 2013

Maryland International Raceway’s Team 1 won the Team Championship on Sunday, July 7 ahead of the second place Richmond Dragway’s Team 1 by the slimmest of margins – 1 point – at the all Junior Dragster Team Finals at Maryland International Raceway.

The team of 10 junior racers brought home an Ironman to their track for the honor.

“We are very proud of our Jr Dragster program and racers here at MIR and always excited to see our teams do well,” states Royce Miller, MIR Track Owner and Team Captain. “But it is equally exciting to see all of the juniors and parents having a great time at an event and that makes all the hard work worth it. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again next year and good luck in the future to all those drivers that will age out this year.”

Junior competitors from Maryland, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Carolinas competed at the three day event for individual awards as well as the main team competition on Sunday. All IHRA, NHRA and independent tracks were invited to participate as well as junior competitors not on a team.

Individual winners from the Junior Dragster Team Finals at MIR were Julie Ainsley (15-17 age), Collin Hoerr (12-14 age), Jordan Dittman (10-11 age) and Seth Goddard (8-9 age).

“The weather, track and Royce’s crew all came together to make this event near perfect,” said Sherrie Barbour, IHRA Director of Special Programs. “The threat of storms held off until after the event was completed and all the junior competitors had a blast. This was one of the best junior events I’ve ever attended.”
