Lancaster Dragway Set to be Wide Open This Weekend

Wednesday, 04 May 2016

Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway kicks off the month of May with their first full weekend of racing for the 2016 season.

The action starts Friday night, May 6 with the season opener for the Franco's Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing Series. It will be the first points race to be contested on Lancaster's recently resurfaced concrete 1/8-mile dragstrip. The start of the season had a slight delay as early-April weather caused resurfacing to be pushed back a few weeks.

All four weekly classes will be in action, including Mallare Enterprises Top ET, McGard Mod ET, Hebler's Sales Sleds & Bikes and Tread City Tire Street. It will also be the season debut for Quick 8 featuring the eight fastest Top ET cars that night on their own special ladder competing for an increased purse.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday with time trials starting at 5 p.m. Adult All Access passes are just $15 and children under 12 are free.

In April, there was 406 feet of concrete poured to give the drag teams a whole new surface for racing. The first Test N Tune was on Tuesday, May 3 giving teams a chance to test how their cars would react to the new surface.

Founded in 1959, Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway is a multi-use facility located on 77 acres just outside of metropolitan Buffalo, N.Y. The facility features a 1/8-mile drag strip, a 1/2-mile oval track and hosts several non-motorsports events such as car shows and concerts.
