DRAG RACING COUPLE GETS "REAL"

Kathy Fisher is all smiles in the winners circle after the runner up finish in Piedmont

Drag Racing Couple....Gets “Real”

Lima, Ohio – The new season has already proved itself to be very exciting for Kathy & Kevin Fisher & Performance by Fisher Racing. After Mother Nature put a damper on the team’s first scheduled race in mid-April that was postponed due to snow, the team made its first venture out for a race they added last minute to the schedule – Piedmont Dragway located outside of Greensboro, NC.

Although this was the team’s first time ever to the Piedmont facility, Kathy was able to make it to the Quick Rod finals in her ’98 Boulton/’07 Cannister dragster and bring back to Ohio the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Division 9 Pro-Am Quick Rod Runner-Up prize along with the very precious points. With not much 1/8 mile racing for the team each year, Kathy took down some heavy hitters in the earlier rounds but just missed taking the Ironman home by breaking out in the final round. When the car launched and didn’t stay on the throttle stop she attempted to drive the 1/8 mile by feel and missed hitting the 5.70 index, running a close 5.689.

Starting off the year with a runner-up for the team is not the only exciting news. Both Kathy and Kevin have been accepted as 2 of only 14 contestants on a 13 week reality television series for the new ESPN2 Garage Block, entitled “King of the Strip”. The entire series will be produced at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, TN later this month (May 22 – May 25) and begin airing on ESPN2 in July.

They were accepted based not only on their drag racing knowledge and background but even more so because of their personalities, according to the show’s producer at Masters Entertainment. The show promises to be very exciting with extremely high stakes. A little game show, a little reality show; husband and wife teammates from Performance by Fisher Racing stand to bring home more than they ever could win in a single race should one of them be crowned “King of the Strip”, or “Queen” of course.

This once in a lifetime opportunity will find the team not racing their dragsters for the show but “street type cars” as the show mandates, thanks to borrowing a couple of cars from some of their friends here in the area.

All of this and just the very beginning of the 2007 race season, the team can’t imagine what other developments may be on the horizon.

Joining the team again this year are marketing partners, Snap-On Tool Dealer - Tom “The Tool Man” Hirt, Lima, Ohio, George “Beaver” – The Rose Shoppe, Lima, Ohio, American Racing, Auto Meter, Amalie Oil Company, Torco Race Fuels, Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, Cannister Motorsports & Performance by Fisher, Inc.
