Four new tracks join IHRA family

POSTED: 2009-11-23 15:26:48  EMAIL TO A FRIEND  PRINT VIEW

IHRA is pleased to announce the signing of four new facilities to its family of tracks which is now approaching 100 members strong.

Montgomery Motorsports Park, Bama Dragway and Mobile Dragway in Alabama and New London Dragstrip in Virginia recently signed with the International Hot Rod Association and will waste little time jumping into rotation hosting events in 2010.

“We are thrilled to welcome these new facilities to the IHRA family and we look forward to working with these tracks in bringing new racers and new opportunities to both groups,” said Skooter Peaco, VP of Race Operations. “It is great to see IHRA’s continued growth, especially on the sportsman front, as we approach a track base that is nearly 100 members strong.

“And with a few more signings planned for the coming weeks we look forward to surpassing that number and continuing to grow the IHRA into the place for sportsman racing.”

Montgomery Motorsports Park in Montgomery, Ala. is IHRA’s biggest addition since signing Palm Beach International Raceway and Virginia Motorsports Park earlier this year.

Under the leadership of Jim Howard, Montgomery Motorsports Park will host a Thunder Jam event in 2010, as well as a Summit Pro-Am Tour Heat Wave divisional event and the 2010 Team Finals.

“We are extremely excited to have a major facility such as Montgomery Motorsports Park join the IHRA. With Jim Howard at the helm, IHRA is looking for big results for years to come at Montgomery,” said Phil Gingerich, Director of Track Development.

Bama Dragway in Pleasant Grove, Ala. will join Montgomery Motorsports Park in hosting a Thunder Jam event in 2010 as the track returns to the IHRA after a once year absence.

Under the direction of new owner Dennis Kloet the facility has been updated and is ready for a return to IHRA competition.

“We are certainly pleased to have both of these tracks back with the IHRA and specifically in hosting a Thunder Jam event next season. Montgomery Motorsports Park is a great facility and Bama Dragway is no stranger to hosting these one of a kind events,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “I look forward to working with these tracks in putting together an incredible program in 2010.”

Alabama completes its trio of new IHRA tracks with Mobile Dragway in Daphnie, Ala.

The final addition to IHRA’s track list is New London Dragstrip in Forest, Va. Located in the rolling hillsides just west of Lynchburg, New London Dragstrip was recently purchased by Cotty Parks and has undergone major renovations in anticipation of its IHRA return.

“We are excited to bring New London to the IHRA. It has a beautiful location and is in great hands with Cotty Parks. It is 1/8 mile with more than enough shutdown and is a great addition to the IHRA family of tracks,” said Gingerich.

With the addition of the quartet of tracks in Alabama and Virginia the IHRA now has tracks in 30 states, three Canadian Provinces and four countries making it one of the largest sanctioning bodies in the world.
