Ohio Valley Dragway prepares for record Thunder Jam

Bob Motz
For the second year in a row the world’s most extreme exhibition vehicles will return to Ohio Valley Dragway for the annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Thunder Jam presented by SafeAuto, the U.S. Airforce and S & S Power Sports on Saturday, August 22nd in West Point, Kentucky.
Nearly half a dozen flame spewing, earth shattering machines will be on hand for the one-of-a-kind show that will feature a night Kentucky thrill seekers won’t soon forget.
“There is no way to describe the incredible power these monsters produce. I still get chills when they fire up – and I have been doing this for years,” said Thunder Jam Operations Manager Jim Marchyshyn.
Headlining the nations largest drag racing entertainment show is the 20,000 horsepower jet semi of the legendary “King of Quake” Bob Motz. Motz, who has been behind the wheel of his legendary jet Kenworth for several decades, never fails to bring the crowd to their feet as he lives up to his name with an earth-shaking launch and 20 foot flames all prior to reaching speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.

But Motz is only part of the show planned for the Ohio Valley Thunder Jam. In fact, with three of the world’s most exciting jet-powered machines, it is hard to tell what will survive the chaos when these extreme vehicles take to the staging lanes later this month.
Along with the “King of Quake”, there will also be a side-by-side battle of the jet trains as “Chattanooga Choo Choo” takes on “Cannonball Express” in one of the fastest battles in drag racing.
“I respect all of these guys for what they do. Every weekend they are essentially sitting on or in front of a bomb with 10 to 20 foot flames just a few feet behind them,” Marchyshyn said. “All this while approaching speeds of up to 200 miles per hour – these guys really are the best entertainers in the world. Don’t miss a chance to see these guys in action later this month.”

Rounding out the night of insane racing is the “Chevy Rebellion” wheelstanding pickup truck as he tries to keep the front tires off the ground the entire length of the course.
All this and more can be witnessed for the most family-friendly prices in town.
If you purchase your tickets in advance at participating O’Reilly Auto Parts stores you can take advantage of an amazing deal. Just buy your adult ticket for $20 and get a 12-and-under kid’s ticket for free. And, as always, parking and all-access pit passes are free at the Bud Ice Pit Party.
“We emphasize affordable family entertainment and value with Thunder Jam,” Marchyshyn said. “We know our fans work hard for their money and we strive to provide them with a great show at an unbeatable price.”
