IHRA and Classic Trailers have teamed up to continue the Classic Trailers No. 1 Qualifier program for sportsman classes at all 10 Nitro Jam™ Drag Racing Series events for 2009. The program rewards first-round-losing No. 1 qualifiers with a free car-and-driver certificate to that same event the following season.
The qualifying order for Quick Rod, Super Rod, and Hot Rod will be determined based on the best package, which will be calculated based on the total performance of being closest to a perfect light without going red and closest to the index without going quicker during qualifying attempts.
Once a No. 1 qualifier has been determined, that competitor may or may not have to race first round depending on the number of cars competing. In the cases where the No. 1 qualifier has to run first round and is defeated, the accomplishment of qualifying No. 1 at IHRA events will not go unrewarded.
The Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Stock, and Super Stock categories will continue to utilize their existing qualifying format, but the Classic Trailers bonus will also apply when a No. 1 qualifier is defeated in the first round of those categories.       
The basic sportsman format for 2009 will have all sportsman categories making two qualifying attempts on Friday, with first round of eliminations Saturday morning.  Please check the specific event schedule on www.ihra.com, as the schedule may differ for certain events.
