ROCKINGHAM – Asheville, North Carolina's Tim West and Shelby, North Carolina’s Ed Pauley earned Top Sportsman and Top Dragster titles, respectively, and Brett Nesbitt of McLeansville repeated as Quick Rod Champion Sunday as the IHRA’s Summit Pro-Am Tour made its annual stop at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway.
Other winners were Michael Beard of Seagrove in Super Stock, Mike Petrie of Union, S.C., in Stock, Dale Koncen of Chaptico, Md., in Super Rod and Donald Webb of Four Oaks, in Hot Rod.

Nesbitt cruised in Quick Rod, getting a free ride in the final when Burlington’s Travis Harvey was guilty of a foul start. He also made a run at a double victory by reaching the quarter final round Top Dragster before fouling himself against Buddy Perkinson of Hopewell, Va.
Among the day’s biggest surprises was the first round elimination of former IHRA World Champion Steve Furr of Harrisburg, who has bidding for his fifth consecutive Rockingham Pro-Am Series win. Furr lost to Mike Dollins of LaGrange by .001 of a second.
West, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, won the Top Sportsman title at the starting line where he forged a .024 of a second advantage that offset the a .007 of second performance edge for runner-up Mike White of Arden.

In Top Dragster, Pauley ran dead-on his 4.880 dial-in in the final to turn back Matthew McDaniel of Forest City. Pauley also ran dead-on in the quarterfinal round and coupled it to a .001 of a second reaction time.
Beard ran dead-on in the Super Stock semifinals to turn back many-time champion Mike Boyles and his “Good Old Charley Brown” ‘57 Chevy wagon and then got a free ride in the final when Wayne Hayes of Elgin, S.C., was guilty of a foul start.
There was a rash of fouls in the late rounds and one denied Sanford’s Travis Womble Jr. the Stock Eliminator title, handing it instead of Petrie. Webb collected the hardware in Hot Rod when former world champion Glenn Ferguson of Greensboro broke out by .001 of a second in his 1966 Ford Fairlane.

David Zimmerman of Greensboro won Saturday night’s special Top Stock race in his 1972 Dodge Challenger, beating Mark Beaver of Shelby in the final.
