Heaton Blog: Phoenix 2007

POSTED: 2007-10-08 10:22:00  EMAIL TO A FRIEND  PRINT VIEW

The concluding Street Warriorz event of 2007 was held at SpeedWorld Dragstrip in Surprise, Arizona. On the outskirts of Phoenix, in the desert, the PARTY came to a close.

The midway was jammed with sponsors and vendors, all swamped for the entire night with the rabid street racing fans that flooded into the dragstrip. The Outlaw Road Show kept things intersting on stage all evening long, and the line up for the Outlaw SPL competition was longer than nearly anywhere else on the tour. The show and shine area was also over flowing with some of the most pristine metal anywhere in the states. Gull wing door are super cool. And the amount of dollars spent on paint and graphics is astronomical. The craftmanship and attention to detail make the USACi Show and Shine a must attend event for all car enthusiasts. The night in the Kumho Tire Pit was killer, and so was the action on the track.

There is a 100 mph VW Beetle in the Phoenix area. I saw it. Well, maybe not exactly 100 mph, but in my book, 99.4 mph is close enough. Tried to get him out for one more try at a true triple digit run, but the poor old girl had already given all she had. Several ealy 70's Pontiacs were eye catchers as well. Not for the beauty, but for the pure horsepower they were able to deliver, run after run. There was also a Mitsubishi that was super impressive on the scoreboards.

The burnout contest ended with a fizzle. The guy that should have won it all, in a new Dodge 1500 pickup, would not come back for the 2nd burn. He was worried that he had already ruined a perfectly good set of tires in the 1st 60 seconds. Can't blame the guy, but it was WAY LAME!!Had a great time, can't wait until next year!!
