You will be hard-pressed to find a more avid supporter of the IHRA than Tommy Jenkins.
Jenkins travels over 90 miles from his home in Dawson, Texas to his home track of Dallas Raceway, passing a number of NHRA tracks along the way to compete at the three-year old facility. He loves Dallas Raceway and thoroughly enjoys IHRA drag racing and it was while enjoying both that Jenkins posted a perfect package in August of 2012 that ultimately led to him being selected on Monday as the inaugural winner of the Polburn’s Perfect Package Prize.
Created at the beginning of this year, Polburn’s Perfect Package Prize rewards IHRA sportsman drag racers who record a perfect package – a perfect reaction time and dial – at an IHRA sanctioned facility. Throughout the year dozens of racers from across the country submitted their perfect run slip and verification and on Monday Jenkins was selected as the winner receiving one year free IHRA membership, one car and driver entry to any Nitro Jam event and over $200 worth of IHRA merchandise.
“This is definitely exciting to win the very first one of these. We were so happy when the IHRA moved closer to us a few years ago with Dallas Raceway. It is one of the best tracks in the entire country and we happily drive over 90 miles one way, passing some NHRA tracks along the way, to compete at the facility and with the IHRA,” Jenkins said. “Overall I had a very good year this year. We have been racing our ’67 Camaro for a long, long time and we still enjoy it to this day. I really want to thank the IHRA for giving us racers opportunities like these.”
Jenkins recorded the perfect run on August 6 driving his 1967 Camaro in the Super Pro class. Jenkins dialed a 6.03 and nailed the tree with a perfect triple zero reaction time and crossed the finish line with a 6.030 run at 111.97 miles per hour. Jenkins is also a multi-time participant in the Summit Team Finals program out of Division 4.
