Hamstra's car got very loose in the middle of the run and he had to muscle it back to the groove. Pierce is a local, from Claremore.

King is running the high-winged Daytona once again - neat car! But he shook and blew the tires loose. "Tricky" Rickie motored right down the groove on a smooth, easy-looking pass and moved to the head of the class. Not bad for the first full pass on a new race car.

King's car stopped on the track, so there was a delay while they towed him off, then cleaned up a trail of "stuff" in his lane.

Mulligan broke yesterday and this was Elam's first attempt.

Elam's car lurched off the line, then started coasting. Mulligan two-stepped the launch, killing his 60-foot time, then made a strong run.

Scotty Cannon was standing behind King's Daytona, watching intently. King's car was very slow off the line, 1.078 seconds, and never did come on strong. Kuhns shook early and the car nosed over on the top end. Now Mike Castellana is on the bump spot at 8.399.

These two fired, then shut off when the trackside observers spotted some debris in Janis' lane at the finish line. Then the equipment rolled, so it appears there was some "stuff" along with the debris.

Stott's car chattered the tires and headed for the centerline, but the veteran driver drove through it without lifting and moved way up in the field. Hagan also shook and drove out of it, not quite as successfully.

 into second place in the championship points, six points ahead of Danny Rowe.
