While the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment World Finals may be known as the final stop in the chase for the 2012 IHRA World Championships, that isn’t the only big race going on that weekend.

Racers don’t forget that the third and final Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular presented by AMSOIL open to ALL racers will take place Friday and Saturday of the World Finals weekend one day before the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions all at Memphis International Raceway the weekend of October 12-14.

Simply put, if you want to compete against the best this is your race. Last year hundreds of racers from 26 states and five Canadian provinces tried their hand at the Summit Sportsman Spectacular in Virginia and even more are expected at this year’s edition of the great American drag race.

The Summit Sportsman Spectacular will serve as the final “regular season” race of the 2012 season and is open to all racers with a valid IHRA or NHRA license. Winners of the event will take home $5,000 plus IHRA members who don’t use the re-entry round to win will qualify for the Summit Tournament of Champions later in the weekend and will be eligible to race for an IHRA World Championship in their respective class.

The Sportsman Spectacular will get underway on Friday, October 12 with two time trials beginning at 9 a.m. followed by eliminations immediately after qualifying. The re-entry round for first round losers will also take place on Friday following round one of eliminations in classes with less than 64 cars. Any driver that loses first round and goes on to win the event will not be eligible for the Tournament of Champions.

Eliminations for the Summit Sportsman Spectacular will continue on Saturday, October 13 at 9 a.m. and will run to conclusion. In addition to a special victory celebration in winners circle following the race, winners will also be honored at the IHRA Awards Celebration Saturday night.

Racing in the Sportsman Spectacular will be conducted in IHRA’s seven regular touring Pro-Am classes of Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, ClassRacer.com Super Stock, ClassRacer.com Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod with each winner collecting a $5,000 payday.

Entry into the event is only $200 with a guaranteed $5,000 to win for Pro-Am classes plus national event contingency, a special edition Ironman and more going to the winner in each class.

And the entire event will take place at one of the finest drag racing facilities in the entire country – Memphis International Raceway.
