All eyes were on western Canada over the weekend as Castrol Raceway hosted the Division 6 Border Bandits Summit Team Finals, the first of nine Summit Team Finals events this season with the host team taking top honors.

Castrol Raceway Team 2 took top honors at the Summit Team Finals presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering with 31 points at its home event, edging Castrol Raceway Team 1 by four points in the final team standings. NL’Akapxm Eagle Motorplex took the final podium spot by finishing third with 17 points.

Eagle Motorplex also earned bragging rights as its top racer Brian Barby claimed the first spot in the Summit SuperSeries World Championship field in Top ET, edging Castrol Raceway’s Barry Kozicki in the final. Barby took home the win with a solid .005 reaction time and a 7.709/159.80 on a 7.69 dial to earn his way into the World Championship picture at Memphis International Raceway later this year. Kozicki ran a 9.883 on a 9.95 dial. Barby also claimed the first Moser Engineering contingency package of the year, awarding himself and Eagle Motorplex $500 apiece for running Moser products.

In Mod ET it was Northern Lights Raceway representative Steven Breitkreuz earning a ticket to the Summit SuperSeries World Championship in October with a win over Kalim Menzel of Castrol Raceway. Breitkreuz narrowly took the tree with a .021 to a .027 and ran a 10.291/127.10 on a 10.27 dial as Menzel ran quicker than the numbers with a 10.549 on a 10.56.

The weekend also saw the first ever qualifier for the Junior Dragster Summit SuperSeries World Championship program as Kaden Bergos of Hi-Line Dragstrip edged Taylor Makarowski of Castrol Raceway to earn a spot at the World Finals. Bergos ran a spot-on 8.944 on an 8.90 dial to take the win. Bergos was also recognized as the Best Appearing Junior Dragster for the weekend.

Barby, Breitkreuz and Bergos will represent the Border Bandits at the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals in October as the “Killer B’s” look to try and bring a World Championship back to western Canada.

Designed to recognize the best local racers at IHRA tracks around the globe, the Summit Team Finals brings racers together to compete and have fun at events around the country. The Summit Team Finals presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering will get back underway the weekend of September 13-16 with the Division 5 Thunder Team Finals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan and the inaugural Division 7 Gunslingers Team Finals at Caprock Motorplex in Texas.
