Over the weekend in Arizona Southwestern International Raceway co-owner Tom Koenen picked up a big win at the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Phoenix.

Koenen drove his black and red dragster from 30th place on the ladder to a final round appearance against J.R. Lobner in Top Dragster and ran a dead-on 7.090, 189.38 with a .015 reaction time to pick up the win. Koenen’s other national event victory came at the 2009 IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals at Castrol Raceway in Alberta.

Koenen’s win is a nice springboard into the upcoming Arizona Nitro Jam March 23-24 at Koenen’s Tucson-based facility. The Arizona Nitro Jam will feature four nitro classes including Pro Fuel Dragster, AMSOIL Prostalgia™ Nitro Funny Car, Nitro Harley and Fuel Altered, multiple exhibition acts including jet dragsters, wheelstanders and more and two full days of sportsman bracket racing. Top Dragster will be the feature IHRA sportsman class in Tucson, with the winner advancing to the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL at the end of the year.
